The story of a 15-year-old American drug addict, based on her own diary. Sometimes she worries about what is happening to her; sometimes she resorts to subterfuge to avoid worrying her family; and sometimes she confides all her anxieties, joys and sorrows to her only trustworthy friend – her diary.

I have to be honest and say I did not like this book at all. It was written in the 1970s and I have meant to read it for a long time. I’m glad I finally have but I did not enjoy it. It’s ‘supposed to be be’ a diary written by a teenage girl who gets mixed up in drugs. While I was reading it I found it quite unbelievable due to the writing for style and the story to be honest, so I did some research. Apparently it is not a true story, and the author who is a psychologist (although this has also been questioned) has written other similar books. I don’t know what is the truth, however it ruined this book for me. It was controversial in the 70s because it is quite graphic in parts but I would not recommend it.
