Overall winner of the Smarties Book Prize 1995. Ruby and Garnet are twins. Since their mother died they have lived with Dad and Gran, but now ""nasty"" Rose is moving in, and they must deal with their new home and new ""mother"", who turns out not to be so nasty after all.

I thought this book was interesting because I didn’t expect twins to feel this way and it surprised me. I loved this book but it was sad in places.
I enjoyed this because I like Jacqueline Wilson books. I love her books because they are so interesting.
Out of those two twins my favorite is Ruby because she wants to be an actress just like me.This book included one of my favorite authors called Enid Blyton. It’s very sad that their mum died. She was called Opal.
It brought out many wonderful laughs for me! My favourite character is Ruby because she is very daring! I would recommend for any Jaqueline Wilson lovers!
Loved it
I love the way the twins bonded, then they parted and then bonded again.
I liked how it had a lot of acting in it and how they had a secret language and worked together as a team.
I love Ruby and my name is Ruby and I’m a lot like the Ruby in that book although I think I could get the scholarship to marnock Heights like Garnet!
It was an amazing book, it was really enjoyable and funny, though it was sad when Ruby didn't get accepted into the boarding school and Garnet did. Ruby then cut all her hair off. I would recommend this book.
I found it confusing at the start reading different chapters of the twins.
My faverouite part is when ( Garnet?)wrote her Memorial at the end and my least faverouite part is when (Ruby?)got a scholarship.
The headmaster
Because she has the least part.
Yes
A great story on two twins desperate to remain together, but shadowing each other's lives, about their life and what they think and feel.
Great book, story, pictures and fun to read :-)
Amazing story, I read it in a day!
I loved it
I liked the book but, sadly, this was one of my least Jacqueline Wilson books because I didn't really understand what the book was about, whether it was one of them going to a boarding school, or theacting chance, or them moving. But it was still interesting.
i feel this book is all about friendship and twins and individuals being your own person and discovering how to be yourself! i would recommend it from age 7 plus!
This book is about 2 twins. Ruby wants to be an actress but Garnett is very shy.
Ruby thinks she is the smarter one.
Turns out garnet is actually smarter!
A very funny and emotional book about two twins who compete against each other for stage
performance and a very famous boarding school but will the two overcome their problems and
find a solution?
I liked reading this book because it was about twin sisters and how they sometimes were friends as well as fighting. There was some funny things they did and how they got into trouble.
All about identical twins. Ruby who is messy and Garnet is the neat one. Their mom is dead and their gran is in a shelter house. They have Rose who the twins HATE! Dad says that he loves her and they go to a new school. A competition for the best twin set ever so they enter but they lost because Garnet was tooo shy. A boarding school is shown but only Garnet only enters as she won. MEMORANDUM is a notebook and in the end they are twins forever.
The most interesting incident in this book is when Dad marries Rose. The twins really dislike her and think only their dead mother could be a good mother to them.
Good.good..yes
I think Garnet deserves the scholarship and Ruby overreacts a bit about it.It is a lovely story about how to deal with changes. I would definitely recommend it as I thought it is very interesting and includes brilliant pictures.
If you like Jacqueline Wilson then you'll LOVE Double act! It is one of the best books I have ever read and it is quite funny too. It's written in an accounts book by ten year-old twin girls called Ruby and Garnet, Ruby is 20 mins older, more chatty and messy and full of energy while Garnet is more quiet, neat and carefull.
Their mum died when they were seven and they're living with their dad and gran. When suddenly their dad gets a girlfriend called Rose, buys a bookshop and moves house leaving the gran behind.
I do recommend this book because it is sad and dramatic but it has a happy ending. ***
I give it a 10/10!
It was a great book and it had lots of adventure. My altimet favorito by far was defently ruby because she has loads and loads of sass also she is very ambitious and funny in the story
I thought the book was funny. My favourite character is Garnet . I liked the book because I enjoyed the part were Garnet and Ruby switched chairs and made everybody think that Ruby was Garnet and Garnet was Ruby. I would recommend it to someone else.
its like a diary how cool!
A very funny book by Jaqueline Wilson!!
I really liked it because it really inspired me. It told me that even when twins look the same they're actually quite different. Ruby and Garnet are definitely different. Ruby's messy and Garnet's tidy. Ruby's chatty and Garnet's shy and many more. They both are happy with their lives until their dad falls in love with a plump lady named Rose. Garnet and Ruby hate her and they're desperate to get rid of her. They all moved to the country and Ruby and Garnet hate it there. Will they both ever learn how to settle in?
This was a fun book
