There’s an empty notebook lying on the table in the moonlight. It’s been there for an age. I keep on saying that I’ll write a journal. So I’ll start right here, right now. I open the book and write the very first words: My name is Mina and I love the night. Then what shall I write? I can’t just write that this happened then this happened then this happened to boring infinitum. I’ll let my journal grow just like the mind does, just like a tree or a beast does, just like life does. Why should a book tell a tale in a dull straight line?
And so Mina writes and writes in her notebook, and here is her journal, Mina’s life in Mina’s own words: her stories and dreams, experiences and thoughts, her scribblings and nonsense, poems and songs. Her vivid account of her vivid life.
In this stunning book, David Almond revisits Mina before she has met Michael, before she has met Skellig.
Shortlisted for the 2012 Carnegie Medal.

I love this book because it is so realistic and funny. My favourite characters are Mina, Michael and Joy. I would recommend this book to anyone who doesn't feel like they fit in.
Definitely fictional. A really good prequel to Skellig.
I loved this book. The longest sentence was great.
Read this because my daughter was reading it at school. I read Skellig some years back and didn’t like it. Mina is a very different read. 📚
If you are one of those readers that understands a fictional person's thoughts in a book, I highly recommend this fantastic book to you. A hooking novel written in 1st person, it could surely not get any better.
I like how the girl mina speaks nonsense she is nonsensical
Mina is a extraordinary character in this book. This shows the world from minas perspective
I have not read it yet but I want to.
I liked this book even though not much happens. Mina shares her mind and memories with us. I liked Mina best because she was so creative and imaginative. I recommend this book to someone who likes storys because it is full of different stories.
THIS IS ACTUALLY THE BEST EVER BOOK EVER!!!!! SERIOUSLY! everyone says that every book is the best book ever but they hardly ever mean it. read this book to open your mind...
This book is ok when you first start it intrigues you a lot but as you read on it doesn't make you feel like you should carry on
There is way to much dialog and less description there is also loads of boring imfomation and almost gave up on it
A brilliant book! Mina's memories, thoughts and life in one excellent story! Also some great, unbelievably good facts to share and "Extraordinary Activities" to have a go at. I would recommend this book for sure!
