Wanting to prove to his brothers and sister that magic really exists, Leon volunteers to be in Abdul Kazam’s magic show and gets transported to a mysterious world. Filled with rabbits, doves, playing cards and magician’s assistants – among other things – if a magician can make it disappear, it will end up in the Place Between!
When Leon returns, not only do his brothers and sister believe, but we do too.
With diecut holes into and out of the Place Between, the reader takes a journey right through the pages of the book, into the mysterious world of Grahame Baker-Smith’s breath-taking illustrations.

I enjoyed this book a lot. It was about a boy named Leon going into the unknown and through the box. He has two brothers and has one sister. He believes in magic a lot. it was a good book so I recommend this book.
I really liked how when he went in he got the white rabbit when it appeared.
An amazing picture book! The illustrations are amazing. I love thinking about Abdul Kazam as a misunderstood character and exploring the imaginary parts of his life. A great book for all age groups to enjoy and take something from.
A beautiful picture book where you can dare to believe.
Loved the illustrations - so much to look at and explore.
Loved the language used.
Looking forward to reading this in class!
This book was a little too abstract for me and I wasn't fond of the writing style. The pictures were lovely in it though and would be great for imagination.
It a bit boring and very fun!
A super illustrated book that takes a young boy on a magical adventure. I can't wait to use this with my Year 3 class.
it was magical when leon went to the box and there was magic all over the place and also magic trices
What a beautiful book! Wonderful story and unusual and eye catching layout made this an absolute delight to read. Filled with hidden fold out pages, and cut out sections it is very cleverly created to create a world of wonder and amazement. Would definitely recommend!
I thought this book was amazing. The detailed illustrations kept me on edge with every page i read. This look is a fiction book. I like the different circus acts. I would recommend this book to all children.
A beautifully illustrated book, that really immersed you in the story from the very start. Plot was quite simplistic but children in my class really engaged with the story and we all enjoyed it!
A magical book, beautifully illustrated.
This book was magical!
Really mystic ,enchanting and beautiful
This book is about a boy who goes to see a magician. He participates in a trick and goes to the place between. The writing style is very dramatic.
I love that each page is completely different, with different fonts used throughout.
It leaves a lot of teaching opportunities and would be a great book to base a unit of work on.
An imaginative story that transports you to the world of magic. It is well written and the illustrations are a good entry point for teaching children about the artistic technique of collage and interplay between text and image. Once Leon is in the Place Between, however, the narrative could have been extended to further the plot line, adding twist, turns and resolutions to fully realise its potential.
i love this book
Easy to read and tells a tale of a circus with a magic show on.
I liked little Mo because she is sweet and still believes (but I mustn't tell you what as that would be a spoiler alert!!)
It is a story for 3 year old's but can be thoroughly by those older.
Good book
A beautiful picture book with haunting illustrations. Leon and his friends visit a magic show but Tom and Pete don't believe in magic. Leon does and discovers something wonderful.
A little boring
It was a mysterious read!
This is a very magical book.
