The Very Hungry Caterpillar

The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a great book for Early Years. I love the colourful illustrations and how the illustrations correspond to numbers and getting children to understand counting. I also love how the book has a bit of science and explains the life cycle of a butterfly.

Fun to read and count and name the foods

I enjoyed the colourful illustrations and the simple but engaging story. I liked watching the caterpillar eat different foods and eventually turn into a beautiful butterfly. It made me think about how children can learn about growth and change through stories. I would recommend this book to young readers, especially children in nursery and Reception, as it is easy to follow and can be fun to read aloud. I don’t think there are any content warnings.

I absolutely love reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar because it is a simple but engaging story that introduces children to the life cycle of a butterfly. I would recommend it to Reception and Year 1 children because the colourful illustrations, repetition and counting make it easy for young children to join in. Another important theme is change and growth. Children moving from Reception to Year 1 may feel nervous or anxious about change, and the caterpillar’s journey and transformation into a butterfly can be used to show that change can be a positive part of growing and learning. I also think the book would be useful for teaching about days of the week, healthy eating, life cycles and nature. The story could lead to lots of cross-curricular activities in science, maths and literacy.

Great one

This book is a childhood favourite of mine and one of the first books I read. This book would be great for children in EYFS to help children learn about the days of the week, counting and the life cycle of a butterfly.

I liked this book, the butterfly is so pretty with all the colours. I’ve also seen caterpillars in our garden and now I know what they turn into.

I enjoyed reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar. It is a fiction story about a caterpillar that eats lots of food before turning into a butterfly. My favourite part was when it turned into a butterfly because it looked beautiful. I liked this book because it is colourful and easy to understand. I would recommend it to other children because it teaches about days of the week and healthy eating. Overall, I would give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

I loved reading this story because I thought the caterpillar was very greedy and ate lots of junk food. At the end the caterpillar then turned into a colourful beautiful butterfly and was very happy. I would recommend this book because it’s fun to lift the flaps for each day and to see the caterpillar getting fatter.
