Deathly.
What an opening! The Graveyard Book had us utterly captivated. From the very first page, the richly developed characters and atmospheric setting drew us into the story, holding our attention until the very end. The blend of fantasy, mystery, and adventure kept us on the edge of our seats, while the themes of family and belonging resonated deeply with us. This book is a true gem.
It a great read about a child who is without his parents raised by spectres in the graveyard. Each chapter stands alone as a story. Coming together at the end for a brilliant ending.
Neil Gaiman, the best children's writer, there is. Magical realism.
It's the first Neil Gaiman book I've read, really enjoyable, exactly the type of book I'd have loved to have read when I was 9 or 10.
I found this book quite strange to begin with but the more I read of it the more I enjoyed it. I would say is probably aimed at older children or children who have a good understanding of what they have read.
A gothic Jungle Book. Wonderful.
Really enjoyed this book. It was very emotional at times as you really get invested in Bod as a character which is testament to the quality of writing. I think my P6/7 class would enjoy this.
I really enjoyed this book because I thought it was engaging and great for keeping the children interested, as there was a little mystery too. I liked the main character Bod as I thought he played his role really well and I enjoyed reading about him growing up, despite all the challenges he faced. I would recommend it.
A very long story and it has a suspensful plotline that gets you hooked.I would recommend it to people that like a scary story that gets readers to love the book itself.Very nice illustrations and it is very good.My favourite characters are the ghosts that took the boy in because they are funny and they also protect the boy from the murderer at all costs and even took him in to raise him in the graveyard.
It was a bit scary
I would recommend this book for teenagers who like ghost stories but it is not scary. The main character is a little odd but being brought up in a graveyard you would expect that!
A brilliant, intriguing opening. The book is well written, enjoyable and original. Nobody Owens is a likeable character who grows up in a graveyard, protected by its inhabitants. There are a few themes (his parents and sister are killed and suicide is mentioned) that may not be appropriate for children younger than year 7; although, it could be read to a year 6 class with some careful re-wording.
Very enjoyable read! You will love the character Bod, he gets to meet some amazing ghosts during his stay in the graveyard! He also went on some fabulous adventures with his ghostly acquaintances and from an early age Bod learned a lot!!!
I like Neil gaimans books. I love Chris Riddells drawings and artwork.
It was ok I don't really like books like this that much. I mean don't like murder and ghost stories that much.
I enjoyed this book, which I originally found because it was written by the same author as Coraline which I had enjoyed.
The book picks up after a few chapters once you start to realise more about what is happening in Bod’s life as he is raised by the inhabitants of the graveyard, and you start to realise why, and as you watch him grow through time from being a baby until he is a teenager.
One of the highlights is watching how his relationship changes with ghosts like the witch Lizzie and with real world Scarlet. The climax as Bod gets revenge on the man Jack was very exciting and clever.
It was AWESOME. I loved it!
Spine chiller
The graveyard book is a fantastic book even though it can get a bit uneventful at some points. I love Nobody and the spookiness of the graveyard.
I really enjoyed the majority of this book however I didn’t feel the ending was right for the protagonist.
I thought it was an interesting and full of suspense.
It is fiction and my favourite character is Nobody Owens - who is the main character.
I’d recommend it to someone who likes suspense, interesting stories & mystery.
This was a great read. Recommend it for ages 10+.
Really good book
It is a ghost story but the main character is raised by Ghosts! It is a brilliant book about friendship and exploration
