A shortcut through the forest to Grandma’s house produces some eerie moments – and some oddly familiar characters – in a strikingly illustrated tale about facing fears.
One night a boy is woken by a terrible sound. A storm is breaking, lightning flashing across the sky. In the morning Dad is gone and Mum doesn’t seem to know when he’ll be back. The next day Mum asks her son to take a cake to his sick grandma. ""Don’t go into the forest,"" she warns. ""Go the long way round."" But, for the first time, the boy chooses to take the path into the forest, where he meets a variety of fairy tale characters.

it was a bit scary when he said it was scary
Bit confusing
I thoughts this book was scary and creepy. I really liked it but just a little bit.
I thoughts this book was scary and creepy. I really liked it but just a little bit.
I like the story and was non fiction.
In really like it because it has all of the fairytale stories like goldilocks, jack and the beanstalk and red riding hood. My favourite characters are goldilocks and jack and the beanstalk and the little boy because they all played a big part in the story and all of their lines I thought were very creative to read. I love the book title.
Boy got lost in The woods
I liked it
Read to my grandchildren. Lovely illustrations
I liked the book because it had loads of fairy tales that joined to one fairy tale and these are my favourites.
I thought it was really good
I liked this book lots.
I liked this book because it was based on lots of other books but there were twists in this one.
An excellent fiction book written by Anthony Browne for KS1. The connections between traditional fairy tales created great twists within the story which the children engaged with. This book was an fantastic core text which allowed a range of writing opportunities for the children.
I really liked the book.
My favourite character was Grandma.
It interested me with the emotions being reflected.
I would recommend it to everyone- its fun to read with family.
It had lots of failytale characters in it and the illustrations are grey.
I liked all of the different bits of the story because they were from different stories.
I like the pictures because they have hidden figures in it.
I like the story because it ends with a happy ending and nothing bad happened.
I would recommend this book because it is fun to read and look at.
This book is very surprising.
I thought there was going to be a wolf in it as it reminded a bit of little red riding hood. It had lots of different characters that reminded me of other fairy tales jack and the beanstalk, Goldilocks and the three bears and Hansel and gretel.
There were lots of spooky things in the background but I loved the story. I liked that there were other stories in the book like Jack and the Beanstalk and Goldilocks. I would not recommend it though because it is spooky and might give people nightmares.
I liked it, it reminded me of we're going on a bear hunt.
I like the way he meets different fairytale characters through the book. it feels a bit like Red Riding Hood but its lots of fairy tales all in one.
ok
This is a story about a boy who one night is woken by a terrible sound. The sky has lightning and there is a storm. The next morning the boy wake up to find his dad is gone and his mums is unsure when he will be returning. Like the story little red riding hood, his mum asks him to take a cake to his sick grandma and told him "don't go into the forest, go the long way round". But the little boy does take the forest route where he meets lots of well known fairytale characters, Hanzel, Gretel and Cinderella's slipper, the wood cutters axe. I recommend it
