Dolphin adores her mother, Marigold. She’s got wonderful clothes, bright hair and vivid tattoos all over her body – a colourful lady, to match her colourful life. But Dolphin’s older sister, Star, is beginning to wonder if living with Marigold’s fiery, unpredictable moods is the best thing for the girls.

Star and Marigold have a mentally distressed mum . They work together to push through the challenges but then Star's dad comes and she goes away with him . Dolphin is left alone to handle her mum , however she is later forced to call for help . She finds a way to manage until her mum gets better until the two sisters reunite . This was my favourite part as everything was put in place and the bond of Dolphin and Star strengthened . It was a fiction book with a ( sort of ) happy ending and my favourite character was Owly / Oliver as he helped Dolphin out of pure kindness with nothing in return , despite his own challenges . I also liked Star as she was more like a mother to Dolphin - and Marigold - but found her a bit moody . I would recommend this book to girls 9+ . Jacqueline Wilson is a great author !
I really like Jacqueline Wilson and really liked this book. It was really grown up and I thought Star was a really good character.
I feel really sorry for Dol and Star.
good
Teaches us about people's experiences.
I liked it was about a single mother with her two daughters, doing everything together and start taking care of her mother
It was a good book.
Fantastic read
This book was about a mum with lots of tattoos and then Star's dad comes back and Star goes away with him, then Dolphin finds her dad but doesn't go away with him because she wants to stay.
Very interesting book because there is a mum who is different from others and she really cares about her two daughters.
I think it was a very grown up and scary situation that Dolphin found herself in especially with Marigold coming back very late at night
Pretty good!
My favourite character was Star (Dolphin's sister)
I like Star because she looks after Marigold when she is unwell. I don’t like Star because she left Marigold and Dolphin.
I would without hesitation at all recommend this book to others. It literally is one pf the best books ever because you can have a mixture of feelings while reasoned this fascinating, fabulous and fantastic book
I started this book a while back but got so caught up in other books i forgot all about it. But then i started the summer reading challenge and knew this book was one i had to read and complete over the course of the six weeks holidays. I was unsure about it but turns out i love it. 4/5 stars.
The reason why I have put 4 stars is because the mum swore once . overall the book was great. I would recommend this as 7+. Its also a really great book to me because it resembles real life .reality. Mum and dads breaking up sisters that sometimes fight sisters who most of the time love each other. I know I love my sister.
I found this book very realistic as people can relate to the story of Marigold and her two daughters, Star and Dolphin.
I would recommend it to girls aged 9+ and if they like long non fiction books.
Interesting but not exactly my style
I loved this book so much because it highlighted the struggles that single mums have to support the family; what bipolar disorder really is. It helped me to understand and learn so much about it. I would recommend it to 11-14 year olds as I think they would really benefit from it. I just wish that they had added about Star facing sexism since it would have really helped some people.
Very good . A story that will soften th hardest of cold and hard hearts
Very heart warming at ten end
Everything is possible in life and no matter what our parents are always our parents. Don't be afraid to ask for help and to speak up .
My favourite character is dolphin . She must have felt so sad without oliver(owly) . Marigolds was full of tattoos and everyone thought that she was different.
My favourite character was Star.
My favourite character is dolphin
I liked the book because there are two girls called Star and Dolphin who live with there Mum Marigold. Marigold has lots of tattoos but Star doesn't like this so later in the book she moves away with her father. Then there Mum goes to hospital because she paints her whole body white so Star will come back and Dolphin gets out in care for a bit.
I read this after hearing it referred to in an interview with Elizabeth Uviebinene as a influential book of her childhood- I realised I had not read any Jacqueline Wilson and I needed to rectify this. I am glad I did. I am a huge Anne Fine fan and this reminded me of books like Crummy Mummy and Madame Doubtfire. The characters had the same fullness and are represent in all their imperfect perfect humanism. It is an observation of human nature, family relationship and the messiness, sadness and angst that that can entail balanced with a whole lot of heart and soul.
I Liked Dolphin best because she is determined character. I would recommend it to loads of people because it is a good book. I really liked this book.
I liked most of it, but some parts were a little bit boring. I liked the character of the mum.
