love it... from a cats perspective

I love this book

I feel this was an unusual book which I didn't think I was enjoying but after aspects of it came back to me. In time, I might wish that I could give It a higher score but my initial impression is this. It tried to be an adventure story or a mystery but I felt it became a series of unconnected events and a poor reveal. It also tried to have a positive message but this wasn't clear and to me appeared as an after thought rather than organically occurring. The trouble I have is the adventure aspect could be enjoyed by young children of the primary age range but the complexity of the dreams makes it more suitable for older primary. I'm not sure the two would marry up to make an enjoyable read for either as a class read.

Good sense of suspense, plenty of opportunities for inference. Some strong characterisation of main character Varjak and side character Holly. Lots of other characters, less development for these. Plot builds well and has a satisfying ending. Ideal for LKS2.

I read this the same time my daughter in Year 4 did and I loved it. It took me on a journey through Mesopotamia and we grew with Varjak through each part of his transformation! Lovely read

I liked reading this book because I found it quite fun. Varjak goes on adventures and missions to find dogs but ends up hiding underneath a car and he finds friends who are also cats. But 1 other cat is mean. I would recommend others to read this book.

I really enjoyed the author’s writing style in this book and the relationships between the characters. I loved how Varjak’s character grew and strengthened as he experienced the outside world and learnt The Way of his ancestor. A wonderful story told from the animal’s point of view.

This book is good because it is very suspensful. Varjak Paw is on a mission to find a dog to save the elder paw and his family from the gentleman and his two black cats.He meets two good friends,Tam and Holly.But their is an evil cat in the city called Sally Bones.Can he find a dog or not...

To be sad for Elder Paw because he got killed by the cats but Varjak came back with a dog named Cluge and was so nice to Varjak

Varjak paw is one of my favorite personal reads.It is very suspencful and I love to just snugle up[ in bed and read it.I have read it 7 times but it never gets boring.
