Having originally read this as a child, I forgot how detailed and descriptive each chapter was. Recommended for UKS2 or KS3 with lots of links to both the narrative for reading and the writing techniques.
I enjoyed reading this classic for the characters, the adventure that they went on with all its twists and turns had you emphaising with them constantly. I loved the map to follow their adventures on.
I have got to a good old age and not read this book so thought I had better! I loved it!
The characters are great and it is full of adventure, heroism, song and laughter.
I really liked reading this book as Tolkien created such vivid images in my head. However, I did often find it quite difficult to read due to the way he writes.
Bilbo is my favourite character because he's scared of quite a lot of things. He worries a lot like I do but then gets over it. He's somewhat inspirational.
Good book overall.
Strengths: Great via audiobook. Effective use of devices - loads of listing and repetition. Good protagonist.
Weaknesses: Takes a long time to get to the action, but then the action can feel quite rushed.
Best book I've ever read
Although some written passages are a little dry and dusty this is a superbly inventive and nostalgic piece of literature.
A brilliant and momentous journey, this genre takes the reader into an immersive experience and the adventurous, descriptive writing is the main attraction. I felt immense joy, intense expectations and heart racing emotions all in the unpredictable adventure of Bilbo Baggins. Being a LOTR fan myself, this book was a worthy prequel. The characters were brilliant and fleshed out well, such as Gandalf and Thorin. I was very interested to know what would happen next! A must read for all.
It's Tolkein. It's the prelude to LOTR. What more can you say? Once you get past the slightly odd 'Singing Dwarves' poetry and into the AMAZINGLY DETAILED world that has been created, you can see all the images and story elements coming together masterfully as Bilbo travels across Middle Earth in search of treasure, but finding so much more! A great book - a classic - and once that deserves to be on every bookshelf even if it's just for glancing at infrequently.
I LOVED IT!!!!!
it was written in strange old fashioned talk. Its was hard to understand at 1st but then I got used to it
I thought it was very good.
it was very interesting, i especially liked the bit were Bilbo finds the ring in the cave were gullam lives
it was very exciting though sad when the battle of the five armies begin cause some of the crew died at the end
Adventure filled book. I would recommend it to all readers.
it was great . I loved it because of the adventures of Bilbo and his friends
This is a fiction book. My favourite character is Bilbo. Yes i would recommend this to my friends and my Granny.
Amazing
I would read this book if you like: Adventure, Mystery, and Magic!
I loved this book, I thought the story was amazing
I enjoyed this book a lot. Because of its adventures and different creatures e.g. levees, dwarves and hobbits. Also I like the twist of Biblo Baggins because first all he wanted to do was stay in his hobbit hole and not go on an adventures. Then at the end of the story he faced goblins and giants, he went on an adventure and was very brave.
I found the hobbit really boring. It drags on for ages and nothing exciting really happens. The only chapter I like is the first chapter when there is an unexpected party.
Adventurous and creepy
Great adventures, with interesting characterizes. Can't wait to read more books by J R R Tolkien.
I loved this book!!! It was EPIC
Interesting and I love the adventures the characters go on.
I think this book is one that everyone should read because it is interesting, exciting and full of adventure.
It's magical and I like the goblins
It was really good but when you start reading it you get into it and when you get into the middle of the book it gets a little bit boring. I think whoever likes adventure story's should read it .
i loved this book as soon as i finished the book i went on to the hobbit movie.
and short after that i watched the lord of the rings. which is a follow on from the hobbit.
very good i like the classics
