FRIENDS. ENEMIES. LOVERS.
EVERYONE HERE HAS AN AGENDA. AND EVERY NIGHT COULD BE YOUR LAST.
Violet Sorrengail had expected to live a quiet life surrounded by books, until she was forced onto the world’s deadliest training ground. Now she must fight to join the army’s elite: dragon riders. But dragons don’t choose fragile riders; they incinerate them, and when your body breaks as easily as Violet’s does – death is only a heartbeat away.
Many cadets would kill Violet to better their own chances of success; the rest would kill her just because of her last name . . . including the ruthless Xaden Riorson, her family’s greatest enemy. With the odds stacked against her, Violet must use every edge her wits can give her just to see the next sunrise, because once you enter Basgiath War College, there are only two ways out:
GRADUATE OR DIE.

Some absolutely truly terrible writing is to be found in this diabolically easy to predict hot mess of an offering. "I am so weak, but I don't need anyone to save me!". Yawn.
Fantasy and romance all mixed together. Dragons and powerful female characters make this great for girls. The adult relationships mean this is more suitable for an older age group
New and different. Takes a new look on a very saturated idea well (dragons)
Absolutely loved this book, I couldn't put it down. Great storyline. Development of the characters was good too.
Love a book with dragons! Wish I could recommend it to younger students as the plot is gripping, but it's a bit spicy.
I loved this! Read it in less than 48 hours.
Definitely a must read for any young adult or even adult who enjoys fantasy with a touch of romance. Personally I would say not suitable below year 10 and even then with mature readers. Not a quick read but you are quickly immersed into the world of Basgiath War College.
Violet is forced into life as a dragon rider whether she wants to or not. Basgiath War College is not for the faint hearted- always needing to watch your back in case other students try to kill you and weed out the weaker students. As it says on the cover Graduate or Die!
Dragons, tension, enemies, lust and friendship- everything you need for a summer read. Definite Hunger Games vibes.
There aren't enough stars on here for me to rate this. My favourite book so far this year (maybe my favourite book in a few years) and I'm already nearly complete with Iron Flame. I loved so many aspects of this book, and it just kept me hooked all the way through. I love this series already and this is only the first book!
The development of the group of characters was done well, and you never quite knew what was going to happen to who as you got further and further into the book.
I am honestly in love with this story and keep recommending it to everyone who hasn't read it yet
This book is incredible. An amazing fantasy reminiscent of the Hunger Games crossed with Game of Thrones! It is emotional, thrilling and romantic. I just couldn't not get enough of it and now desperately awaiting the release of Iron Flame.
Loved this book, I am a sucker for a high fantasy series. I liked the characters and the sub plots were intriguing. There were also dragons which make everything better
This is an incredible epic fantasy novel. It has dragons, it has brutal, lethal games and a perfectly tension-filled slow burn romance. It ends on a huge cliff-hanger than made my jaw drop and I can’t wait for book two!
Incredible first book in a planned trilogy - set in a fantasy world of danger, magic and dragon riders, I couldn't put it down and devoured it within a few days. The stakes are high from the first few chapters with incredible action and a steamy enemies-to-lovers romance to top it off. I can't wait for the sequel.
