Milo’s a rhino.
He likes to do all sorts of rhino-y things . . .
He likes writing and climbing
and banister-sliding
and mountain bike riding,
he paints and he sings.
Milo just loves being a rhino – but there’s one small problem . . . rhinos don’t cry.
At least that’s what Spike-O Mcree, his movie-star hero, always says. But when Milo meets Spike-O face to face, he finds out that not only is crying OK, it’s also very brave!
This energetic and engaging rhyming story is the first in a series of books highlighting the importance of children expressing their feelings.

I like this book because the rhino saved the cat.
It’s ok.
Today I read the book Rhino's Don't Cry, kindly sent to me by Bloomsbury Publishing me at my Tot's Rock session (a group for Toddlers, parents/carers and babies) it was very well received and some of the children enjoyed the story very much. It was a very busy session today with children on the toddler cusp 30 mums and children in total, so to get the attention of some of the children by reading a book was wonderful, thank you.

This is a wonderful book ! It explores in a very gentle way the idea that everyone will at times feel upset and a need to cry, and that no matter whether you are a young rhino or a young boy or anyone else, that is okay. In fact, it is neccesary for helping to let those feelings out and to start feeling better. Young children will love the rhyme, and the easy rhythm of this, makes it perfect for a read-aloud. The illustrations also add a strong visual narrative to the storytelling. I did appreciate the male representation, as the discussion of emotions is so often relegated and limited to the female gaze. My young primary-school readers loved this book, and it was a prompt for some great discussions about emotions and feelings. This would be a fabulous addition to all Primary school libraries.
