The real world is a hostile place for twelve-year-old Bren, his schooldays stalked by vicious bully, Shaun, and his family life fractured at home. Ever since his sister Evie died in an accident, Bren’s only safe space is Furthermoor, an imagined world of mechanised trees and clockwork animals, where Evie is still alive. In Furthermoor, no one can hurt Bren…until the mysterious Featherly arrives.
Now Bren is forced to confront his deepest fears and decide if his place in the real world is worth fighting for.
Enter a world as vast and dark as your imagination, in this unforgettable coming-of-age story about courage, friendship and finding your voice. TweetReviews
If you are being bullied and want a helpful novel or want a fantasy book or both this book is a must for you.
This book, whilst being a fictional story, covers real life issues, such as bullying, in a fun and peculiar way
It was good but a bit confusing. I wasn’t really sure when anything was happening but the writer (Dan Simpson) really got me to care for the characters but also dislike the bad ones. I would recommend this book to people who like a bit of (clue alert!) mechanics and imagination. To people who like to know exactly what’s going on…maybe give it a miss.
Twelve-year-old Bren is going through a tough time. His sister Evie died in an accident and he and his parents are finding life hard. On top of that, he has to deal with Shaun, an evil Bully. Bren finds solace in an imaginary world ‘furthermoor’ where Evie still lives. However, the mysterious Featherly arrives and Ben has to confront his fears.
I liked how, in this book, it links the real world to the main character, Bren,'s imaginary world, Furthermoor. My favourite character was Bren's big sister, who is dead, but alive in Furthermoor, Evie.
I don't think this story was very good but I kind of like the ending.
A story that is deep and heavy with grief and bullying as the main character deals with the harsh reality of the world around him, against the fantasy world he has created with his imagination. When the two start to mix, he finds he has to face what he is afraid of.
This is a terrifying adventure filled with darkness and to my mind has echoes of Coraline. Deals with grief and its affects on the whole family.
