The first book in the hotly anticipated new fantasy adventure series for readers age 9+, from A. F. Steadman. If you like Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Eragon or His Dark Materials, you’ll love this . . .
Unicorns don’t belong in fairy tales; they belong in nightmares.
So begins Skandar and the Unicorn Thief. Soar into a world where unicorns are real – and they’re deadly. They can only be tamed by the rider who hatches them. Thirteen-year-old Skandar Smith has only ever wanted to be a unicorn rider, and the time has finally come for him to take his Hatchery Exam, which will determine whether he is destined to hatch a unicorn egg. But when Skandar is stopped from taking the exam, and the mysterious and frightening Weaver steals the most powerful unicorn in the world, becoming a rider proves a lot more dangerous than he could ever have imagined. And what if Skandar was always destined to be the villain rather than the hero? Get ready for unlikely heroes, elemental magic, fierce sky battles, ancient secrets, nail-biting races and, of course, bloodthirsty unicorns. This will be the biggest new series of 2022. TweetReviews
I really like this book because it is full of suspense about what is going to happen to skandar and his friends. If you read the book you will know that skandar is a spirit wielder
This was an AMAZING book as it was so nice but dangerous. I know it might look like it is all about unicorns but it is actually much more and is for very, very advanced readers. Enjoy
This book suggests that unicorns are not cuddly and full of rainbow-magic, and are in fact, animals that are predatory and linked closely to the world's elements.
This book explores what it's like to not belong, and how it feels to find somewhere that you feel included. It also has a family that has a dad who is depressed and not always able to care for the children.
I would recommend this book for people who are aged 8 and above.
This book is fiction, this book was one of my best and it is factual.
I LOVED this book! It had Harry Potter / How to Train Your Dragon vibes but it was original and a great concept. The characters were believable and the storyline was thrilling - I didn't want to put it down! I'm looking forward to reading the sequel already!
Amazing
Excellent read. Well paced with a blend of fantasy and adventure. Read aloud 8+, possibly a bit older to read alone.

I really liked this book because of the storyline and twists in it.There were so many!!!
Introducing a new element to the mix gave it a you are hooked vibe.
Best book ever!
I liked reading this book lots because it was really exciting and a bit scary. It was hard to stop reading once I had started. I liked it because it was about unicorns but they were not like the unicorns people think of and can be a bit scary but they are really funny sometimes and the most exciting bit was when the unicorns were using all the elemental magic to slow each other down whilst racing.
I thought the weaver was a bit scary.
It is a fiction book and my favourite character is Scoundrel (Skandar's unicorn)as he's got a strong mind of his own, but also works with Skandar brilliantly! He's such funny character!
It is very exciting and full of action 5 stars I hope there are lots more to come
a funny but scary read, this is a briliant book for 8-12.
This is one of the best books I have ever read. If you like adventure stories I recommend this to you.
My favourite character is Bobby and a I just love her emergency sandwiches. It was an amazing book
I liked this book because it shows determination, friendship, resilience and adventure. This book is fiction and is a fantasy fiction genre. My favourite character is Skandar because he was determined to get into the hatchery even though he was stopped taking the hatchery exam by Agatha, the weavers sister. I would recommend this book to 7+ or to people who like elemental magic and bloodthirsty fantasy creatures.

I'm a sucker for a fantasy novel, so this book hit the spot. I couldn't put it down. I read it in 3 days! The characters are really strong and relatable.
The book has the right amount of suspense that really builds throughout the story. There were small clues throughout, which allowed me to work out the ending before reading it. I'm really looking forward to reading the sequel. I'd definitely recommend this title to anyone that loves a fantasy story or wants a reading for pleasure novel.
