I thoroughly enjoyed reading Crater Lake and this sequel did not disappoint. It's another action packed, hilarious and horrific page turner. All the old characters from the first book reappear with some additional new characters. I really enjoyed the character of Karim- who would have guessed that taking such pride in his hair could save him from turning into a waspy bug creature. I was pleased that the evil teacher from the first book, Miss Hoche, reappeared as an investigative journalist. I shall definitely recommend this book to my year 6 class.
Having been a big fan of the original book in the Crater Lake ‘series’, I had high hopes for this sequel. I was not disappointed.
The return of all the favourite characters from the original, boosted by the introduction of Lance’s new friend, Karim, takes all of the successes from the first book and takes them up a notch (those of a certain age, think Alien to Aliens).
It had serious Stranger Things vibes for a slightly younger audience and that will always get my vote.
I really hope Jennifer Killick considers taking the group on one more adventure, perhaps a trip abroad!
The story picks up 5 months after the original happenings at Crater Lake. Stray bridge is taken over by alien like creatures and as well as the battle to overcome them, there is a focus on friendships and effects of transition from Primary to secondary school. I enjoyed it as much as the first; the stories remind me a bit of Point Horror ones from back in the day. If I had a Year 6 class, this would be in our class story collection.
Great sequel! Awesomely, freakily scary but hilariously funny too. Read it in one sitting it was so good!!
Following on from the horrors of Crater Lake - an explosion at the University, all communications break down and then Lance notices his mum is somehow not herself. What's happening to the town of Straybridge? Surely not.....
