I liked the bit where Mina saw a woman make a crane and a paper boat on the bus and I’m going to try to make an origami crane myself.

As with all of David Almond's books, this is simple, beautiful and connects deeply with the emotions. His writing has a way of transporting the reader to somewhere else entirely. I love it and this story about Mina in Japan was just delightful.

Beautifully illustrated but if you haven’t read Skellig you will miss some of the plot.

A thoughtful and gentle story about a young girl's experiences travelling to Japan. Mina finds herself growing and becoming connected to the foreign country she is exploring. A lady on the bus creates beautiful origami shapes and gifts them to Mina. The origami helps Mina to explore the traditions of Japan and could even help her create a whole new friendship.

This book was all about a girl called Mina who has just moved to Tokyo in Japan. A lady gives her an origami bird and boat whilst on a bus and then she makes friends with a boy who found it on the lake. I didn’t like this book and wouldn’t recommend it.

I think this book is quite cool how the lady in the book gave a paper boat and a paper bird to the little girl and then she put it in a lake to float away and then somehow it ended up back with her.

This was a really easy book to read but also really beautiful. I liked the simplicity of it and how the two characters met. It was a short story but it was very wholesome and I liked the drawings!

It was so lovely to see Mina again - one of my favourite characters in children's literature. Too short! I wanted it to go on but that's a good thing.
