The Witches by Roald Dahl has made many a child quiver with fear and delight!
Witches really are a detestable breed. They disguise themselves as lovely ladies, when secretly they want to squish and squelch all the wretched children they despise. Luckily one boy and his grandmother know how to recognize these vile creatures – but can they get rid of them for good?
""A true genius . . . Roald Dahl is my hero"" David Walliams
Roald Dahl, the best-loved of children’s writers, was born in Wales of Norwegian parents. After school in England he went to work for Shell in Africa. He began to write after ""a monumental bash on the head"", sustained as an RAF pilot in World War II. Roald Dahl died in 1990.
Quentin Blake is one of the best-known and best-loved children’s illustrators and it’s impossible now to think of Roald Dahl’s writings without imagining Quentin Blake’s illustrations.

I really liked this book Roald Dahl is one of my favourite authors. It was a bit scary but the ending was really good
The witches were evil and cruel. I was glad that they turned into mice .
loved learning how to spot a witch
It was funny because the witches turned two little boys into mice and one of the boys then turned the witches into mice.
I love all the potions and drama that this book has. I think I'm a bit of a Ronald Dalh nerd because I have nearly every book he made.
Could be scary
I liked this book a lot I thought it was funny. My mum thought I might be scared but I wasn’t at all.
The witches
They have notes about witches and I loved reading this book.
I loved the way Roald Dahl used wording and vocabulary in this story. The storyline was engaging, and my favourite character was the Grand High Witch. I would recommend it to older readers, over 9.
I love it I love it when the witches try to eat the kids
My favourite character is Grandmother, because she tells very interesting stories and tries to keep the boy safe. The only reason I am not putting 4 stars is because I got a nightmare due to what the Witch was doing.
It had so much words.
It's about what to do when there is a witch and mistakes and how to discover one
I loved because the witches voice made me laugh
My favourite characters where the little boy (the narrator) and the grand high witch.
The grand high witch has magic powers and the narrator is brave and clever and quick!
I would definitely recommend it!
I love this book because it is scary and I love scary things
Brilliant!
I didn’t have a favourite character. I liked the story but bits of it were gross
I would recommend this book to people who like Suspense and mischief . The thing I liked about this book was that even though the boy turned into a mouse he did not hesitate to get the witches back!
Scary but great I love the writing
The grand witch was creepy
I liked it because it was a very good ending and it was really good to read.
I really liked this book as it gave more information and twists compared to the movie. My favourite character was Luke because he was a brave boy. He was brave enough to go into the witches lair, and worked with his grandma to defeat them.
I love this! It’s so creepy and funny. It also has very exciting vocabulary! I loved it so much I could read it 100 more times!!! My parents have told me there is a film so I look forward to watching that with them, if I dare!
I liked that there were different characters in the book. The boy was my favourite. I also liked the Grandmamma and how clever she was.
I also liked the 6 different ways of how to spot a witch:
Blue spit
Big Nostril
Wear gloves
Bald and wear a wig
No toes
Fire and ice dancing in their eyes.
I liked that the Grand high witch was turned into a mouse and the plan the grandmama and the boy made to get rid off the new GHW and all the other witches.
It was a bit scary but I'm didn't get too scared.
But scary
It was amazing even more amazing than the twits. My favourite character is Mr Jenkins. I would recommend it to other girls and boys to read.
What I liked about this book was that the Grand High Witch got destroyed by a chef and the children were cheering and thought it was really funny.
