This text followed on nicely from the first in the series, seeing the same 4 main characters enjoying another case. Richard Osman has a lovely sense of humour, and adds clever little details throughout the text which I especially like.

I really enjoyed this murder mystery. As ever, there were plenty of storylines happening simultaneously with lots of interesting characters. Looking forward to book 3
Great YA read! Funny, fast-paced, mysterious, heart-warming, and thrilling. Such a well-known author also adds appeal. This book would be suitable to mature teens who enjoy murder mysteries, it was recommended to me by a student in year 9.
Hilarious! Characters are so human and love the interactions between them
Just as good as the first book. You find out a little more about the main characters in the second book, including Elizabeth’s background. I’ve heard they are making a film of the first book!
Actually enjoyed it more than the first! Probably the plot intricacies and the chance to get to know the characters further.
Joyce’s foray into Insta was hilarious and unexpected - life isn’t over in your 70s!
I could tell this was written with more thought than his first book, which felt as much of a journey for Richard as well as the readers.
I enjoyed meeting some of the old characters again, if only they were actually like that in real life, I wouldn't mind the fear of getting old so much.
I would recommend reading this week if you like a giggle at their antics.
At Oundle Crime we realise we're in a minority because we find this series definitely underwhelming. Despite the reviews saying this is 'gripping' and 'suspenseful' we'd categorise it (and The Thursday Murder Club) as 'Cosy Crime'. It's none the worse for that, and as long as that's what you're expecting you won't be disappointed. In this story the pensioners are working to solve the mystery of a diamond robbery and the plot has had everything but the kitchen sink thrown at it. There are bodies, of course, and a rather overcrowded cast of characters which includes the police, gangsters and even MI5. An easy read but nothing special in our view.
This was a Christmas present. It's a very clever plot and Richard Osman has garnered a style that combines humour with modern vernacular. I wonder if, in future years, these books will appear dated or, like Agatha Christie's novels of the 1930s, they will be redolent of early 21st Century attitudes and read for their period feel.
One dread thought. Are these being written with a future TV serialisation or big screen adaptation in mind? The Thursday Murder Club books are an enjoyable enough one off read but I'm not sure I could stand Penelope Wilton, Jim Broadbent and Helen Mirren acting out the antics of the residents of Cooper's Chase.
I would like to thank Net Galley for the opportunity to read this book.
I was very pleased when I was accepted to read this book. I really enjoyed Mr Osman’s first book featuring the Thursday Murder Club. The characters are delightful - group of over 70s staying in a retirement complex, their police friends and a few others introduced into each book. The chapters are written from the perspective of the different characters and some of their thoughts are so funny! I suppose the story is a bit implausible, but there is a bit of suspense so thriller lovers won’t be disappointed.
I loved the Thursday Murder Club so I was really excited to receive a proof copy of The Man Who Died Twice. Richard's second novel in the series is as good as the first if not better. The book is warm, moving and very funny. The plot is gripping with a couple of twists and turns along the way. As with the first book the characters are well drawn, really likeable and engaging. Throughout the book it evident that we should never underestimate the elderly- or do so at our own peril. Fantastic read I would highly recommend.
I was lucky enough to receive an uncorrected proof copy of this book and it has been a joy to read. I have not read The Thursday Murder Club, so this was my first experience in reading Richard Osman’s writing, and I am not disappointed.
It’s a lovely story about a group of elderly friends who get caught up in a MI5 murder mystery. The writing is easy to follow and I had many chuckles along the way, especially with Joyce. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and feel I didn’t miss out on too much from not reading the first book.
Having read Richard Osman’s first book, I couldn’t wait to read his second. I know the books have had mixed reviews, but I loved the first one. The characters were awesome and I just wanted to go and live with them all, loved their quirky ways. So when I was given book 2 as a review copy I was over the moon. Book 2 is, in my opinion, even better than book 1. Same wonderful characters, better, more developed plot. I found it funny, heart warming and a little unbeilable, but I actually don’t think that mattered. Such an entertaining read. Thank you to Netgalley for the pre release copy. I will be recommending this to my reader friends.
