The Evernight has been defeated and the sun has returned, thanks to Larabelle Fox and her friends Joe and Double Eight. White Witches have their souls back and Mrs Hester is no more. It should be a time of celebration and relief.

But a new threat is emerging from the mists of the Veil, the dangerous forest that surrounds the Silver Kingdom’s southern lands. Mysterious killings are taking place, and Double Eight is the suspect. Lara and Joe journey to Lake End to discover what’s really happening, all the while trying to stay one step ahead of the secret police . . .

I thought that this book was quite good, I rate it 5/5. I thought that this book was full of mystery and excitement!! My favourite person was Lara because even in the darkest of times she stuck by her friend. I would recommend!!

An exciting magical murder mystery set a year after Evernight. You need to have read the prequel in my opinion. It’s full of more intrigue and magic. You meet Larabelle Fox and Joe Littlefoot again as well as other familiar characters and new ones too. Despite the dangers, the main characters luckily have a strong friendship which gives them the strength to carry on. Ross Mackenzie is a brilliant children’s author. Great for KS2.
