Reviews
I really liked it since the characters were really complex and you really sympathised towards characters like Melody and Hal. I would definitely recommend it to people who like mystery and friendship stories.
I enjoyed the riddles
Not me though
I loved this
I liked this book because I’m a mystery book sort of girl meaning I like detective books and such
A good adventure book about standing up for yourself and not judging others.
Very interesting
I really liked this book because it is full of wonder and mystery. My favourite character is Melody Bird because she is very good at solving riddles. I would recommend this book to other children because they would be able to solve more riddles.
I like this author's books and style of writing. I really enjoyed the story.
A cool book with lots of twists and turns.
Good
This is a great book I really loved it but I have only given it 4 stars because it is a bit too scary in parts. I liked asking my mummy some of the riddles and told her she should read the book too because it is awesome.
A great book, well written and very relatable for children. The story moves at a good pace, and while the main character struggles with some major life changes, unpredictable friendships and an exciting mystery character, the reader is swept along to the end.
I feel happy for Jake that he could keep the dog.
This is an amazing book about Melody Bird (the narrator) who finds a boy called Hal who is allegedly a spy of M18 pursuing Martin Stone, a criminal. Mathew is my favorite character because he faces his fears throughout the story.
A clever fiction mystery story, with an important message about wellbeing and mental health, true to life experiences which everyone can relate to.
This is an intriguing adventure story, featuring the characters frok the excellent novel 'Goldfish Boy'. In this book, the focus of the story now moves to Melody and we find out more about her family and home life whilst also investigating a mystery she uncovers within the graveyard. Who is the mysterious Hal - and can he be trusted?
On the surface a mystery story, with some nice riddles for children to solve, but at its heart a story of true friendship between the four central characters. Melody Bird, the main character for this book is a likeable and engaging character. The story gently explores meaningful issues such as family loss, bullying, emotional well-being and mental health and its impact on these children’s lives. It is a good read but I think it might help to read the first book from this author (The Goldfish Boy) first, as this book is building on these pre-established characters.
