This book was great I enjoyed the fact there was a magical map that could let you teleport.
This wasn't my favourite book because I struggled to understand the story.
My favourite character in this book was Grace because she thought that her brother was getting special spy kit but they had the same amount of training so in her head she said this is unfair. To prove to her Mum and her brother she went on a mission but it was surprisingly it was a trick! Great book very exciting!
Wonderful fantasy adventure story.
Griffin map is a map where if people need help they can call the Griffin map and a Griffin will come to the rescue. in this book, there is a child named Grace who is 13. if you want to be a griffin you have to be 15. how ever one day when a call comes to the griffin gate asking for help Grace takes action to show how brave she is. Won't spoil the story so I'll finish here. Recommend for Children.
My favourite character was Grace because she was smart and even though she was to young to be a warden she didn't let that stop her. She was a little bit naughty but she did it for the greater good and saved everyone also there was a lot of plot twists that were very shocking it was as if I was in the book!
I wish i was that girl
My favourite character from the story was Watson the mechanical
I would recommend it for people who like adventure books
My struggling readers will love this.
I liked this book because it was a mystery and my favourite character was Grace because she was adventurous.
Loved this book. Got into the story really quickly. Enjoyed the short chapters and quick moving of the plot. Will definitely be reading more books by Vashti Hardy.
The Griffin Gate is a lovely story by Vashti Hardy backed up with illustrations by Natalie Smillie and published by Barrington Stoke using their fantastic dyslexia-friendly layout and coloured pages. An easy to ready enjoyable story that follows Grace who's Mother and brother are Wardens of the Griffin Map. The map allows people across Moreland to call for help from the wardens who are then magically transported to where they are needed. Grace is still young (Wardens must be 15) and a trainee but her brother has recently become a Warden and the story follows what happens when Grace tries to prove that she is more than capable of being a Warden like her brother, but what she hadn't though of was that she might be walking into someones trap.
I read this book as an adult and will certainly be recommending it to students in our school library. Although it has been edited to a reading age of 8 I feel that the story itself would be more suited to children of around that age and that older students with a younger reading ability might like the story but find it a little on the young side for them.
There is also another book that follows Grace an her family The Puffin Portal which would be great for readers who like to enjoy a series and find out what happens next.
Grace teleports to save a village invaded by a monster using an enchanted map... but the monster is a fake trap, can she save herself?
This adventure-packed novella was hard to put down... I read it in one sitting, a very captivating read suitable for any age!
Fiction.
Those that love Harry Potter or Phillip Pullmab books
I would recommend this to pupils in LKS2. The messages within the fairly fast-moving plot included family, a female protagonist trying to prove she was more capable than her age and elements of superpowers made for an interesting read.
