My Story: Noor Inayat Khan is the thrilling story of
British-Indian World War Two heroine, Noor un-Nisa Inayat Khan.
It’s 1940 and hundreds of families are being forced to flee
Nazi-occupied France. Noor refuses to sit back and do nothing while
Nazi forces invade her home and terrorise her people, so she
signs up to join the war efforts despite her mother’s wishes.

Soon
she is chosen by Winston Churchill to go undercover into
France. Noor returns home but this time as a secret agent.

Can
Noor keep her true identity a secret, report her findings back
to London and help the Allies win the war?

history first-hand with My Story in this all-new look!

This is a tough read set during World War II; it is the story of Noor who is determined to fulfil a useful role in the war despite objections from her family; she becomes a secret agent in France having to hide her identity; her imprisonment and journey as a prisoner until her death reflect the brutality of the regime and of war time - this element of the book would need scaffolding for young readers. I think Sufiya Ahmed's author notes and list of important dates at the end of the book are a good starting point to get into this book. Age range Y6 upwards, I think (but with scaffolding)

A tale based on a true story of a posthumous George Cross and Croix de Guerre medal winner. It’s an amazing tale of bravery, resilience and determination. An ideal book for using in a WWII topic to ensure that pupils understand that significant sacrifices were made by all members of society.

A well-written, engaging book set before and during the Second World War. I strong main character that KS3 my students identify with. A story told with just the right pace and depth. Drama, danger, grief, excitement. Nail-biting stuff. An easy route to learn about WW 2 and the heroic, selfless decisions individuals had to make. Based on actual events.
