This mystery is difficult to classify because it touches so many crime genres. Revd. Jack Brooks and his teenage daughter move to a new town and a new job, but the community is suspicious of outsiders and people are anything but welcoming. Five hundred years ago the town was the site where eight martyrs were killed and there have been more recent deaths as well, including the last vicar. I found this completely absorbing and completely scary!
