it was a very moving and powerful book
age 9+
This book is about a young girl who goes to India to stay with her deceased mother’s family whom she has never met before. While she’s there she learns all about who her mother was and how she died, and she even finds her mother’s childhood ghost. In the end she learns to love her family and everyone starts to open up about Chinty (Tamarind’s mother). I enjoyed the start and was interested to keep reading because of the mystery but I didn’t like the fact that Ishta turned out to be a ghost.
A magical and emotional journey.
Really enjoyed this and my kids will love it when I read it to them next academic year for sure!
I thought that this book was a bit mysterious and dangerous at the end. I liked Tamarind best because she is Indian but lives in England. I would recommend this book to someone who likes action and adventure.
A beautiful. magical, mysterious and atmospheric story which warmed my heart magnificently. I also loved the way it transported me to the Himalayas bringing all my senses alive in the process..🐒🥰📚
I liked the bit where she made friends.
This book is fabulous and adventurous.
I love this book because its talking about a girl and her mum's family that accuses her of her mother's death but she didn't loose confidence
it shows different cultures
Tamarind was my favourite! She saved her mean cousin Sufia from being attacked by wolves, even though she did not like her.
Love the book about young tamarind growing up without a mum and finally understood the truth
an awesome book
A heartwarming family story about a girl who meets the ghost of her deceased mother.
This was as gripping and unputdownable- actually, much better, as Bilan's debut novel 'Asha & The Spirit Bird'. I was always guessing what was to happen next and this lovely story will definitely be a one that stays with you after turning the last page. I was swept away by words to a magical world of spirits and memories- I definitely recommend to all fantasy-lovers, and is suitable for children and young adults.
I loved hearing about Tamarind's mum and the swing on the Tamarind tree. My favourite character was either Tamarind, Hanu or Sufia. I would really recommend this book to people who like a story about a family. If I could, I would rate this book 10/5 stars!
A wonderful, emotional story about a girl, Tamarind, trying to learn the truth about her mother who died when Tamarind was just a baby. The subtle tones of mythology, alongside the story of a family with deep divisions but also great love for one another, was a real joy to read. The answers and resolutions she finally finds are extremely worthwhile - brought a tear to my eye.
Sweet adventure story which follows the main character as she unravels family secrets on her first trip to India to meet her mum's family. I loved the magical/folk tale elements.

Another exciting adventure from the author of Asha &the Spirit Bird. Tamarind visits her ancestral home in the Himalayas hoping to find out about her mum, but her questions are met by silence. However, her adventurous nature and the spirits of the past help her to unravel the mystery at the heart of her family. A beautiful, spiritual tale - a really moving read.
