Absolutely loved this book. I have been a big fan of Mike Gayle's books and have enjoyed each and everyone of them. This book really touched me. It tells two stories of Hubert, an 84 year old widower. the story starts when he first comes to the UK from Jamaica back in the 50's and all the difficulties he and his wife and family faced and how Hubert is adjusting to life on his own now. There are some great characters you meet in the story who are all looking for a sense of community, a connection. The book deals with a lot of issues ranging from loneliness, racism, substance abuse and early onset dementia. There is a lot of love in this book too. An inspiring read...
Absolutely loved this book and love Mike Gayle. It is the story of Hubert Bird who finds loneliness and the company of others both hard to accept. He came from Jamaica in the 50s and built a life and a family in London. Delightful characters throughout. It is a timely reminder of how life is so busy but loneliness takes over us all at some point. This is the 3rd Mike Gayle book I've read and will definitely read more. I thoroughly recommend it.
