The power of imagination and storytelling combine in a poignant and uplifting novella of family, connection and overcoming grief.
Tabby’s fed up. Fed up with losing her best friend and fed up that Grandad has come to stay. Grandad’s always telling the same old silly, made-up stories and now Tabby has to walk his smelly dog Buster every day after school. When one of Tabby’s walks takes her to a lonely hilltop house she spots something strange going on. So strange she can’t help but mention it to Grandad who of course turns it all into another fantasy. But when tragedy strikes, Tabby’s left wondering if Grandad’s impossible story could be true? A poignant and uplifting story of family, connection and imagination, from the Blue Peter Book Award shortlisted author of Owen and the Soldier. Particularly suitable for struggling, reluctant or dyslexic readers aged 8+ TweetReviews
She even manages to write a great Barrington Stoke book! Tabby's grandad has come to live with them but she finds him and his dog, Buster, a bit of an inconvenience. He tells her far-fetched stories and she has to listen to them over and over again. When something happens, she wishes she had listened to the stories with more enthusiasm. The text level is not difficult but interest level is 9+
It is really good how it expresses the house. I would highly recommend this book.
One day Tabby’s grandfather
Told her a story about a cloud she then Discovered more about it, and realise that it was true
I recommend this book because it is exciting.
The main characters’ grandfather is friends with an artist who lives in a mysterious house.
The reason I gave this 4 stars is because there is a sad part in the middle of the book.
I liked the dog because it was funny and all the characters.
A wonderful, heartwarming but beautifully sad story. This books reminds us that we should give more time to our loved ones before it’s too late. It’s also a good reminder to pay attention to the world around you instead of looking at your phone and worrying about what others are doing on social media.
I like this book because it was a lovely story.
The cliff hanger was great and also I love the difference between this book and other books I have read before
It shood hav ben longr
It was really catchy and I didn't want to stop reading. I liked all of the characters in this story. This is a fiction book.
Really boring story about a woman who can change the shape of clouds. Dyslexia friendly.
Good
I didn't really like this book but didnt really concentrate. Maybe I could try it again
I read this book in about 30 minutes and was intrigued the whole time. There was a range of emotions throughout and in the end it all worked out. My favourite character was Alex as he was kind and thoughtful in the description and actions. I recommend if you enjoy short reads but not if you have had a family member pass away as it contains that.
Quite a nice little novella focussing on relationships at home and at school. The loss of a grandparent and being left out at school is sensitively and realistically handled. I found the realism did not mesh quite as perfectly as in Thompson's other books.
A nice book, but not my favourite Lisa Thompson book.
