The book is an interesting read and written so cleverly, at first hardly noticeable until you progress further ! I have not read another book in this style before and certainly recommend it to others to experience Mark Dunn’s applaudable creativity with language.
This is a book about how a young ,18 year old, girl called Ella battles against the tyrannical rule of the council on her small island of Nollop. In this extraordinary novel we read Ella's letters to her cousin with the latest news on Nollopville ,oblivious to the crisis brewing up ahead. It all starts with the letter 'z' falling off the statue of Nevin Nollop, author of the prestigious sentence 'The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog' ,causing the council on the small island to interpret this as a sign that Nollop wanted the island's inhabitants to get rid of the letter and ban its use in any way of form. This was minuscule compared to what lay waiting for them as more letters fall of the statue and more are banned until only the 5 letters , l, m, n, o, p remain...
