Thousands of years ago, the Evernight came to the Silver Kingdom and turned everything to darkness and chaos. It was only defeated thanks to the skill and bravery of the Witches. But now the Evernight is about to return, released by the evil Mrs Hester, and the only spell that might stop it is lost, deep below the great city of King’s Haven.
Then orphan Larabelle Fox stumbles across a mysterious wooden box while treasure-hunting in the city’s sewers. Little does she realise she is about to be catapulted into an adventure, facing wild magic and mortal danger – and a man who casts no shadow . . .

I enjoyed this book. It is a bit spooky but not too scary. I liked that during dramatic bits of the story the chapters had cliffhanger endings then the story moved back to another part so had I to wait to find out what happened.
Meh. Good but Lara was funny
I'm not enjoying this book , it's not very interesting
It was a boring book I did not like to read and never finished.
It was really good and exciting
Intriguing and fascinating. The book is about a girl who was given powers at the age of 13. She has the powers of air and water. The water sign is a dolphin which helped her know danger was near.
Fiction
Fav character: Moonwing because he is black and gold and I like those colours together
I would recommend to my friends
Evernight is very good it is very high quality and amazing to read
What struck me about this novel was how well plotted it is. The writer creates a dark world where children search the sewers for treasures. There’s magic, oppression and a brilliantly constructed climactic moment.
I liked how at the start shadow jack was fighting jenny winter and he was still included in the story later on.
I love this book because it is full of adventures and magic thrilling with magic words ready to read.
It was a very good book. My favourite character was Lara because she was very adventurous.
I would definitely recommend it to someone who likes fantasy and adventure books
My favourite character was Joe Littlefoot. The book was very interesting, it was good for my reading level and preferred genre. I am looking forward to the next one.
It was a very good book because it had lots of adventures and problems that the characters had to overcome.
I really enjoyed this book. There was lots of mystery around elements of the story and it was full of magic and adventure. From the beginning of the book, the reader is introduced to a large range of fantastic, stand-out characters, led by the orphaned heroine Lara.
I would definitely recommend it to pupils in Y5 and 6 as they will really enjoy it.
I liked Larabelle Fox ,Leora Twigg,Double Eight,Bernie Whitecrow and Magnus Whitecrow. This book is AMAZING! . I would recommend it to someone who likes Harry Potter
I adored this book, in fact I wanted to bathe in the language used to create such a rich world. I invested in the characters and I felt a real connection to the sense of dark being foreboding and the feel of those in power abandoning those in need. The thread of magic added a richness. I have recommended this far and wide!
Brilliant book and great story.
This book is full of intrigue and magic. A great read and explores friendships and choices. My favourite character I think is Joe. He is a steadfast friend and brave.
Definitely worth a read!
This book was fictional I enjoyed it very nicely I’m not sure what person I like the best yes I would really recommend it as I enjoyed it very well I would rate it a five out of 5
Fantastic story. A real page turner.
I enjoyed this book however it took me a little longer to get into than some books. I like to be hooked quite quickly. I liked the characters Double Eight and Lara but felt that some parts of the story were a little bit off, as if not everything could be logically explained, but it was enjoyable nonetheless.
Evernight is a fiction book about a girl named Lara. Lara lives a World of two types of magic- White Witch and Hag, in King's Haven, where Lara lives, she is surrounded by soul-less White Witches under the reign of the King and the White Witch leader Mrs Hester and her servant who casts no shadow- Shadow Jack. Lara is a tosher: someone who earns their living by finding valuables in the sewers and selling them but when she finds a mysterious clockwork bird in a wooden box, her life is plunged into a world of mystery, danger and adventure. Can Lara and her new found friends rescue Westerly Witch and millions of lives from the Evernight and its faithful Painted while Lara still gets to grips with her new power? This book is mysterious, adventurous and sinister so anyone who likes that genre should read it.
I loved this book because it takes such an ordinary girl and turns her into a hero. It mixes ordinary life and fanciful meaning together beautifully.
Been on my to read pile for ages! Love The Nowhere Emporium so knee I’d love this! Dark, atmospheric and at times really scarily! Lots of comparisons with The Graveyard Book and loads I could do with it in the classroom!
Love Ross MacKenzie’s writing. Larabelle Fox is a fascinating, feisty character who is fearless. This adventure is pacy and engaging, with the threat of the shadowless man hanging over much of the story.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book, it has a strong female lead who I championed as a reader. The book includes adventure as well as addressing emotions too. The book has genuinely tense moments and doesn't any away from this even though it's aimed at children.
i love this book
I love the way you can make spells and I would recommend it because it is thrilling and brilliant.
Perfection
I liked this book because it was very different to any other book I have read.
