A heartwarming story about a foster child seeing a star which is her mum. I loved this book but maybe don't see the back of it like acknowledgements. I will definitely recommend this book to you
Hard hitting, but enjoyable.
This story is about Aniyah and Noah going to a foster home because their Mum has died. Their Dad beat up their Mum, and is too evil to look after them. So someone else has to take care of them. At the foster home they meet two boys called Ben and Travis who are kind and help them to get to London to the Royal Observatory. Aniyah believes her Mum has turned into a star and wants to name the star after her Mum.
I really enjoyed this book
I rated it four out of five beceause it is a bit of a sad story but very you want to read more
good
It was fascinating reading it
Story about a foster girl and her life
very good book
It was absolutely brilliant how they were on an adventurous journey to find Aniyah's mum as I love adventure type books. The story made me care about things I hadn't thought of before and want to help people. It is lovely how Ben, Travis, Noah and Aniyah all work together to make sure Aniyah's mum's star does not get renamed when it already has a name. I highly recommend it.
This book is a lot of fun, despite dealing with the huge topic of domestic violence. It tells the story of the central character Aniyah and her little brother Noah, on a mission, along with their friends Ben and Travis, to make sure a newly discovered star, which they associate with their mum, gets the correct name. Lots of adventure, humour, peril, a chase - I think this book would make an entertaining and touching animated film!
I loved this book- this author is incredible, to be able to deal with such difficult subjects in such a child friendly way- I loved it from start to finish.
This book is about a girl whose mum died but she doesn't know how. One day on TV she sees a new star and thinks that's her mum but online the professors are having a vote to name it. The girl doesn't want the star to be named wrong so on Halloween she goes ALL the way to London… I like the book because it's dramatic and sad and even happy at the same time.
amazing
It was very energetic with people constantly moving about. It was a very good book and I would recommend it to people aged 10-14.
A wonderful book that had me very close to tears about a girl whose mum has been murdered by her dad (though she doesn’t realise that) & races to Greenwich to have a star named after her. It has all the thrill of adventure & racing against time that The Boy at the Back of the Class had & great characterisation of the different foster children.
Excellent and it’s a really good book, with the surprise at the end
A beautifully told story surrounding a very serious, distressing topic that the author deals with carefully, compassionately and sensitively. The serious undertone of domestic violence behind the children being in foster care remains throughout but whilst it does, it’s carefully written and not the centre of the story.
Aniyah and her younger brother Noah are placed in foster care after their mum is in their words taken from them. The story although at times funny, is also emotional and heart breaking as Aniyah and Noah begin to come to terms with what actually happened to their mum, their loss, bereavement and their new reality. They are though fortunate enough to have been placed into a loving and accepting foster home where they are both loved and nurtured. With help from her two new foster brothers Aniyah and Noah attempt to travel to The Greenwich Observatory in time to name the newly found star that Aniyah believes is her mum looking over her from above.
Loved the book
I feel sorry for Aniyah and her brother Noah because at the end of the book, they discovered that their Dad murdered their Mum.
I thought it was drama, but it is more adventure. Great ending.
Very thought provoking into life of a Foster child. Only reservation was that nit all Foster children will achieve their dream as happened in the story. Hood to see Foster life from different viewpoints. Well written.
The best thing ever to read
I love this author! This book was as good as all their others. I would recommend this book along with The Boy at the Back of the Class and The Lion Above the Door.
Love it, it's the best book ever (in my opinion)!
It was a really good story
Great.
Oh, my goodness. Love Onjali Q.Rauf. I love the way in which she reveals the back story to us…drip, drip…little by little…while taking the present day story forwards. 📚
i liked it but not my stile
This is a very fun and exciting book full of suspense. Aniyah and her little brother Noah were all extremely determined to find their mum’s star, even though it meant an awfully great and even risky adventure, out day and night. Their heart-warming and caring friends at the foster family - Travis and Ben helped Aniyah and Noah with all their heart to find Mums’s Star. Onjali Q. Rauf was very tactful in making this story grip you, making you want to read it more and more, especially on the journey to the astronomy centre. My favourite character in this book is Aniyah because she was really courageous and ambitious, never giving up and always being hopeful. I also really like Noah because he was extremely cute and cheeky and being only 5 years old and all the family he has is Aniyah, it must had been really difficult for him. I would recommend this book to others.
Beautifully written and so poignant. I was in tears by the end. I love how the author convincingly depicts issues like trauma, fostering and adoption from the children's perspective. I was completely caught up in Aniyah's interpretation of events and didn't get the full picture until the last chapter- just before Aniyah got it herself. Could not put it down!
