From NYT bestselling author Victoria Schwab comes a thrillingly spooky and action-packed tale of hauntings, history, mystery, and the bond between friends Ever since Cass almost drowned (okay, she did drown, but she doesn’t like to think about it), she can pull back the Veil that separates the living from the dead . . . and enter the world of spirits. Her best friend is even a ghost. So things are already pretty strange. But they’re about to get much stranger. When Cass’s parents start hosting a TV show about the world’s most haunted places, the family heads off to Edinburgh, Scotland. Here, graveyards, castles, and secret passageways teem with restless phantoms. And when Cass meets a girl who shares her ""gift,"" she realizes how much she still has to learn about the Veil — and herself. And she’ll have to learn fast. The city of ghosts is more dangerous than she ever imagined. A story about a girl and her best friend, who happens to be a ghost. A child friendly ghost story.
A ghostly adventure with friendship throughout.
Best book ever. Loved the storyline. Don't read at night! It's really scary.
It was funny, mainly because of Jacob he has a really good sense of humour. My favourite character was Lara because she too was funny. I would recommend it to people who like happy endings.
City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab
A spooky, spine-tingling read full of action, excitement and adventure.
Cassidy travels with her parents who are experts in the paranormal, to Edinburgh, one of the most haunted cities in the world. Following a near-death experience she has the ability to see and speak to ghosts, in fact her best friend Jacob is a ghost. She is pulled into ‘The Veil’, a world between life and death. When she meets Lara, another “in-betweener” she learns how to help trapped spirits and ghosts to move on to the other side. In a thrilling climax she faces an epic struggle to save herself and escape from the clutches of the evil Raven in Red. Look out for more spooky stories in the series.
Picked this up because a pupil left it in my office and then I needed to finish it.
Was an easy read with lots of historical references to Edinburgh. A few twists and turns and good development of characters.
Ending was a little weak but will read the next book to carry on the adventure
