I LOVED this book!
I really liked Minty because she seemed so strict but threw her corset away near the end of the book.
I would recommend Journey to the River Sea to people who like Adventure, suspense and heart-warming book.
Maia, Clovis and Finn were also very interesting characters.
Please read it everyone!
It is very worth 5 stars.
It is also the book's 20th anniversary because it was published in 2001.
Emma Carroll has also wrote a book called Escape to the River Sea which is inspired by Journey to the River Sea, so if you have read Journey to the River Sea mabye try it out to.
I thought the characters in this book were rather interesting and cool but they could improve the description of the boat.
Beautiful adventure story, I read late on the evening when I was too tired. Can’t wait to read Emma Carrols sequel/standalone
Really love the book.Felt transported to an adventure.
The empathy that runs with Maia throughout the whole story is superb. A great way to explore the Amazon within a book. I like the cruel sisters in the story ( a little Cinderella-ish) and the supportive role of Miss Minton 'Minty'. Clovis and Finn play great roles in supporting Maia and deepening her adventures, away from the Carters.
it was amazing . all about adventures, the way I like it. my favourite character maia because she is very clam and is adventurer.
This is one of my favourite books. It had me on the edge of my seat and I really sympathised with the characters
I loved this book ! It is one of my favourites . I remember reading this a long time ago, I really enjoyed it , the character I loved was Maia. She was really intelligent , some thoughts I had were why the carters were always mean to Maia . But it was a interesting story .
This book is about Maia and Finn who met at the Amazon when Maia's cousins have been found and Maia will be staying with them but when she finds out they only want Maia because of the money she has from her dead parents. Mrs Carter only needs the money to pay off the bills they have. When Finn has problems of his own he is being tracked down to go were his father lived... Westwood!
This it just like it’s sequel. It is a page turning adventure where you feel as if you are Maya.
This is by far my favourite children's book ever. The description and detail really made me feel like I was in the story, and there are so many twists and turns that I never really knew what was going to happen next. I loved learning about the twins in particular, their characters intrigued me. Also, Miss Minton turns out to be one of my favourite characters. I really wish they would make this book into a film!
I loved this adventure story and didnt want it to end! Anyone who loves adventures will enjoy this book.
I really liked the main character. I found it exciting but a bit confusing at the beginning.
I really liked this book and would definitely recommend it. It is about a girl called Maia, who lives with her cousins and uncle and aunt.
The carters(her uncle and aunt) want to go for a play, but the twin cousins lie and say that Maia can’t come, since there are not enough tickets.
Maia wants to go, so she sneaks out, but gets lost. She meets a half native and have adventures with him.
In the end they travel from the amazon river to England.
Mia is an orphan.
This is my all-time favourite book. I read it for the first time this holiday and have read it three times since. it is all about the amazon rainforest, and though the book is fictional, contains some interesting facts. When Maia (the heroine) finds out that her parents are dead and she must go and live in the jungle with some unknown cousins, she goes willingly and her they can't understand why she likes the rainforest and make it their mission to get rid of Maia and somehow find some money of their own because they need her inheritance. Meanwhile, a boy living in the jungle is needed to be taken back to England to his inheritance but the boy doesn't want to go so Maia has to figure out a way to get the detectives away without the correct boy. my favourite character was miss Minton, Maia's strict yet kind governess. I liked her sharp, dry humour and particular hatred for her corset.
I would recommend this book to anyone who, like me has a particular love of the amazon, fugitive boys and enjoys sly digs about pigs!
