When Tomas discovers a strange old tree at the bottom of his grandad’s garden, he doesn’t think much of it. But he takes the funny fruit from the tree back into the house – and gets the shock and delight of his life when a tiny dragon hatches! The tree is a dragonfruit tree, and Tomas has got his very own dragon, Flicker …
Tomas soon finds out that life with Flicker is great fun, but also very … unpredictable. Yes, dragons are wonderful, but they also set fire to your toothbruth and leave your pants hanging from the TV aerial. Tomas has to learn how to look after Flicker – and quickly. And then something extraordinary happens – more dragonfruits appear on the tree. Tomas is officially growing dragons …
The first book in a sparky and utterly enchanting new series.

A good series for P4/5 readers. It is a relatively simple story and plot but one that is suitable to this age group. Lovely illustrations throughout and a good storyline of a boy and his friends who finds dragonfruit in his grandfather’s garden and has to keep his new pet a secret. Others in the series which keeps the pupils interesed
It is a bit funny how it says some funny things at the start
I recommend this book because I like dragons and if you like them too you will think this book is marvellous. Read the book.
Part read really enjoying it
Dragons are so cool!
I like when in the book it shows you a funny picture of the tom tom the cat jumping. My favourite character was Grim because he always looks angry and that made me laugh.
A lighthearted book that will be enjoyed by younger readers. The dragons are quite possibly the coolest pet that any child would like and the relationship it has with the cat brings a chuckle to the reader.
The writing was easy to read and the illustrations were good.

I want my own dragon! An orange and purple dragon.
i like the story is ok 1 time readable my loved person in the book is grandpa
Really enjoyed reading this fun book
I like this book because it is very interesting and my favourite character in the book is Tomas. I would recommend this book to someone because it has a good moral lesson.
It’s funny that the boy thinks he is growing a real fire breathing dragon but he is actually growing dragon fruit with his granddad!
I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading the next in the series.
Funny interesting book
Nice easy read and funny
When the Dragon poo fell into the boys head
I enjoyed this book but it was a hard read at times x
I really enjoyed reading this book.
It was like being the actual character doing all the things he did in the book. Everything came to life in my head it was like having a realistic dream. There were so much descriptive phrases it sounded so real.
I really enjoyed the book
I think the author did a really good job of explaining and making the story come to life in the imagination.
Funny and exciting
A boy was out in the garden and had got rid of a plant he found a glowing bud that night a thing flew out of the glowing bud and hid under a blanket he moved it and there was …red…dragon! To be continued in the very exiting book.
i have loved the part where he grew the dragons
It was really good. My favourite character was Flicker.
This books was so awesome. I liked the moment where Thomas found the Dragon. Usually Dragons are always scary but in this book they look so cute because they illustrated nicely. I liked the Dragon more than Thomas. I would strongly recommend to children's to my classmates.
Everything was so fantastic because I never knew that baby dragon would make spark’s instead of making fire and that there poo’s would explode
Tomas was a good character in the book, I loved Flicker. The book was amazing and exciting to read what the dragon did next.
My faverout characters were Kat,the dragons and Lolli.
I liked the dragon best.
