But he takes the funny fruit from the tree back into the house – and gets the shock and delight of his life when a tiny dragon hatches! The tree is a dragonfruit tree, and Tomas has got his very own dragon, Flicker …
Tomas soon finds out that life with Flicker is great fun, but also very … unpredictable. Yes, dragons are wonderful, but they also set fire to your toothbruth and leave your pants hanging from the TV aerial. Tomas has to learn how to look after Flicker – and quickly. And then something extraordinary happens – more dragonfruits appear on the tree. Tomas is officially growing dragons …
The first book in a sparky and utterly enchanting series.

It is a fiction book.
The thing I liked about this book was when Thomas and his grandad grew dragons. Thomas had a dragon of his own called Flicker because he flickers and he brought Flicker to school and showed everyone
this was a great book
Andy Shepherd is an... well... INCREDIBLE, AMAZING, OUTSTANDING AND BRILLIANT author!!! He REALLY understands kids who LOVE dragons, mysteries and adventure, like me!!! Sara Ogilvie is GREAT as well, her illustrations are the BEST match for Andy's books!!! They are the PEREFCT team!!! And I LOVE the superhero squad in this book!!!! Kat, Kai and Ted are brilliant thought up characters, and Tomas and Flicker (Tomas's dragon) are the PERFECT partners. Crystal (Kat's dragon), Dodger (Kai's dragon) and Sunny (Ted's dragon) are INCREDIBLRE too!!! I just LOVE these books, and would HIGHLY recommend them!!!
Very good book, favourite character was grandad. Funny, a good book for children who like fantasy books.
I loved the dragons because they had superpowers: Flicker could turn any colour he wanted, Crystal made ice, Sunny made fire. I wish I could grow my own dragon!
I really like the dragons in the story.
This Is a good and easy read and I appreciate the pictures a.though it is a bit dry. My favorite character is Thomas's grandad.
Amazing story! It was really exciting and I liked how Thomas talked. The dragon called Flicker was my favourite because he was really cute and it was funny that he was a vegetarian dragon.
Good book to get younger children interested
I enjoyed the concept of this book- and my class definitely did too- they wanted me to keep reading during every session.
There were lots of laugh out loud moments- an enjoyable book for children in Year 3 and Year 4.
Fantastic. Especially about the dragons
Very fun and imaginative . Loved it! I love dragons and what a great mystery / animal adventure story to thrill me !
A good series for P4/5 readers. It is a relatively simple story and plot but one that is suitable to this age group. Lovely illustrations throughout and a good storyline of a boy and his friends who finds dragonfruit in his grandfather’s garden and has to keep his new pet a secret. Others in the series which keeps the pupils interesed
It is a bit funny how it says some funny things at the start
I recommend this book because I like dragons and if you like them too you will think this book is marvellous. Read the book.
Part read really enjoying it
Dragons are so cool!
I like when in the book it shows you a funny picture of the tom tom the cat jumping. My favourite character was Grim because he always looks angry and that made me laugh.
A lighthearted book that will be enjoyed by younger readers. The dragons are quite possibly the coolest pet that any child would like and the relationship it has with the cat brings a chuckle to the reader.
The writing was easy to read and the illustrations were good.
loved this
I want my own dragon! An orange and purple dragon.
i like the story is ok 1 time readable my loved person in the book is grandpa
Really enjoyed reading this fun book
I like this book because it is very interesting and my favourite character in the book is Tomas. I would recommend this book to someone because it has a good moral lesson.
It’s funny that the boy thinks he is growing a real fire breathing dragon but he is actually growing dragon fruit with his granddad!
I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading the next in the series.
