I love this book
Sophie Anderson is a good writer if there are anymore books written by Sophie Anderson I would love to know.
I would recommend this book to everybody
Great book with action packed scenes and fun characters!
Such a brilliant and different book this one is - reminded me of the film Coco in some ways from a few years ago.
I liked the house and the Yaga.
An imaginative tale with some unusual characters. The setting was able to change frequently which led to the main character's adventures. The personification was good and there were some good discussion points that would be appropriate for Y4 up.
I loved this book.
It had such a different theme than other books I have read before.
I really liked Benjamin as he was kind and friendly. He is also really good at drawing.
My favourite part is The Yaga celebration of bonding.
This book was sad at times, but full of joy along the way as well anger and frustration which Marinka showed throughout the book.
This is a must read
It was very good and it pulls you in to the other books that they write
I really loved this book as it was so meaningful and truly just AMAZING. I would recommend this book for older or just really advanced readers. This book is for advanced 9 to 13
I didn’t finish the book because I didn’t like the part at the end when the girl leaves the house there to dye but I really enjoyed the rest of it.
I loved it!
It’s really sad because Baba doesn’t come back.
Book had interesting title and story was odd but very sweet tail and magic and family focused
Very scary but exciting. It was about this girl that want a to be normal but her grandma wants her to guide the dead. then her grandma disappears and the girl has to take care of the running house and the dead. My favourite person is the girl because she has a strong heart and is independent. I would recommend this beautiful book with all my heart .
A story about a girl who knows she is different to everyone else, how she strives to be the 'same' and what it costs her. A valuable lesson about being careful what you wish for and having to live the the consequences of your actions.
I found this book very moving. Marinka's longing for connection with the living was effectively portrayed. I felt great empathy for Marinka; the author did a terrific job of putting you in Marinka's shoes and making you feel as conflicted as Marinka does over whether she must follow a path set out for her or follow her own desires. The final third of the book had me sobbing - not only while I was reading the story, but also as I was recounting it to my daughter later. The relationship between Marinka and the house was beautifully written. The sacrifices made by Yaga and the house really spoke to my experience of maternal love. I couldn't recommend this book enough.
A really imaginative and unusual story - not my usual genre but I really enjoyed this. Recommend to all.
This is a fascinating book- full of surprise but I also found this sad to read in lots of places- I liked the ending!
A thought provoking book. Sad in parts and very mythical.
I liked this book because the house walked on chicken legs which is totally crazy and awesome. The house also kicked the main character, Marnkna, into the sea!!
I loving look at death, loss and life, this books is a great way to show children the idea of the inevitable idea of mortality.
Malinka likes with Baba, her grandmother and their house has chicken legs. The house can move whenever it feels the need to and has its own personality and life. Malinka is going to be the next guardian for the gate which allows the dead to journey to the stars. It is her destiny. However, Malinka is not too thrilled by the prospect of only being friends with the dead and strive to have a life of her own.
A lovely book which I would recommend to children 11 and above.

I really enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it to anyone else looking for a exciting, easy to read, adventurous story. I thought this book was quite sad at times because Marinka was only able to have the same friends for a short period of time before the house moved on.
An exciting book with plenty of plot twists, would recommend for 10+ because it is also very sad.
I loved the description! So much beautiful vocabulary!
Very sad. I really enjoyed reading it.
I loved it so much. The author really gripped me with the story line and I thought it was an interesting book the whole time. I loved when she made a friend and took care of his adorable lamb. I also thought it was emotional when her nan disappeared while helping her ghost friend go through the portal.
This story explores themes such as being an outsider, loneliness and loss sensitively and with imagination.
The central character displays a convincing mixture of conflicting emotions.
The house has its own personality which the author gets across without dialogue, through its "body language".
This book has inspired me to seek out some traditional tales of Baba Yaga.
Loved it! I have an interest in Russian literature and culture and so I knew about Baba Yaga but I loved the storytelling and the discussion about life and death.
It was a very exciting book with a lot of twists and turns.
The main character always had about a billion emotions at once!
My favorite character is the raven Jack.
He was always over reacted when he got upset and is always sticking dead things in peoples ears.
I think people who liked the story Baba Yaga would like this one very much.
It was a very interesting and enjoyable and I hope people will like it too.
