Everyone in the book club finished this months book.
This book provided a lot of discussion as we wondered why each sibling did what they did with the information about the date of their death that they were given. Each certainly behaved differently given that information. We felt that they were all very young to have been given that kind of information, it must have had some kind of effect on them even if they thought it hadn't. Given that they were so young we wondered at why the woman gave them this kind of information, surely she could see that it would have a detrimental effect on them?
We had a long discussion about what we felt we would do if we were given the date of our death, or even if we would like to know it. Some decided they would like to know so that they could get things done and maybe start some kind of bucket list. Others did not want to know at all as it might make them change their lives too much.
There were a lot of coincidences in this book that led to the deaths coming about, we weren't all very happy with this as it felt too contrived. But at the same time this was the only way the author could make things turn out in the way it was needed.
Of all the sibling stories we felt the most touched and shocked by Simon. Maybe because we kind of weren't expecting it to happen as he was first, and also due to the manner of his death and the reaction of his other siblings to it. This was understandble as maybe they too didn't believe in the predictions.
We actually gave this book 5 out of 10.
