AND THEN THERE WERE SHOTS
Everybody
ran,
ducked,
hid, tucked
themselves tight.
Pressed our lips to the
pavement and prayed
the boom, followed by
the buzz of a bullet,
didn’t meet us.
After Will’s brother is shot in a gang crime, he knows the next steps. Don’t cry. Don’t snitch. Get revenge. So he gets in the lift with Shawn’s gun, determined to follow The Rules. Only when the lift door opens, Buck walks in, Will’s friend who died years ago. And Dani, who was shot years before that. As more people from his past arrive, Will has to ask himself if he really knows what he’s doing.
This haunting, lyrical, powerful verse novel will blow you away.

Very interesting and engaging! Loved the free verse style.
Actually listened to Jason reading this as an audiobook which gave it real presence. Very short but punchy. Followed along with the graphic novel. First time I'd done that but really complimented each other.
A fantastic read that engages and intrigues until the very last page...
I quite liked it. I liked how you couldn't really tell if something was real or not. I don't really like the ending. I thought it would have been better to see if he actually followed through with his plan.
Very nice
Love how this book is set out in verses making it such a quick read. Very well crafted.
I read it as I have been trying to expand my knowledge of up to date graphic novels. It was good and communicated an important message but it is too adult for the children I teach so I know I can't use it in school. Brilliant for secondary school libraries though.
I loved this book because
it had lots of action in it and
scary parts.
I loved the verse prose.
I hope to get a copy for our college to keep in the office
This was an alright book, the use of a new aspect of his life or another thought or topic being introduced with every stop the elevator made was very interesting and clever though. Also, the poem format was very engaging but the book as a whole did very little to pique my interest as a reader.
Really emotive story. Lots of powerful phrases and moments that punch you like a fist to the stomach. So quick to read which gives the story urgency and pace that is a bit addictive!
