Max is a hedgehog who lives with his family in a nice little home, but it’s on the wrong side of the road from the Park where there’s a beautiful lily pond and plenty of juicy slugs, worms and snails!
The busy road is dangerous but Max is determined to make his way across. If humans can do it, why can’t hedgehogs? His first attempt ends in a nasty bump on the head and, when Max tries to speak, he realises his words are all mixed up. He is no longer a hedgehog but a hodgeheg!
Still determined to fulfil his mission, Max discovers the best way to cross the road – with the help of the lollipop lady and some careful detective work . . .

great book - i love how the animals can understand some things that people can't!
I think it was a good book, but it isn't over the top good, just good, so 4 stars.
It's a sweet little book about a little hedgehog called Max, trying to cross the road. In the end they all get to the other side of the road. However, it is a bit scary when Max bumps his head.
it was a nice book it is just because it was for school so i new what happend it is nice just not my favourite book
I liked the bit where they all crossed the road safely with the magic lollipop lady. I liked the bit with the milk float because that was funny when the milk went everywhere. I’m happy that Max didn’t get squished.
I liked it because it taught me about hedgehogs and getting safely across roads.
It was silly when Max the hedgehog went onto the road and he went on the zebra crossing and bumped his head. He got his words in a muddle and says really funny things. Then he finds a safe place to cross with his family by the lollipop lady.
It is really funny because Victor Maximilian St George( max) bumped his head and when he speaks his words are all muddled up so for example, he says “I got a head on the bump”!
This book was fiction I enjoyed it because I liked how Max had great determination to find a way for Hedgehog's to cross the road safely. My favourite character was Pa as he is mischievous like me as he was steeling his neighbours food. I would recommend this book to someone who is resilient.
One of my favourite books, full of humour. Would recommend it.

This is a very good book. Max was very brave and clever and my favorite character. He was determined to find a safe way for hedgehogs to cross the road.
I liked that it had a hedgehog in it.
good book
I liked max the best
I like this story about Max the hedgehog.
I love animals so it was a great book but there was some sad moments too
It was really good I loved the way max is so brave to go near the road he is so determined too
It’s about a brave hedgehog finding ways to cross roads safely. It’s really funny and interesting and I would definitely recommend it to readers 7 years and over.
This book was really good, I liked Max the best.
My favourite part of the story was the ending when they all crossed the road safely and happily
I quite like the Hodgeheg because Max kept trying cross the road but it wasn't the best place to cross if you were a hedgehog so Max tried to find a way. In the end, he crossed over with his family and a lollipop lady!
I liked it because it had lots of adventure. This book is about Max, a hedgehog, who was trying to find out how hedgehogs could cross the road and he bumped his head and couldn’t speak properly.
I would recommend this book because it was very funny when Max the hedgehog got his words muddled up after he bumped his head against the kerbstone. Also, it has some interesting facts about hedgehogs after the story.
It was a spectacular journey and he had to find out how the humans crossed the roads. He wasn't scared he was brave, even though he was hurt he still continued his journey without rest.
I think it was good because it really put itself into the story
great story i think good for little ones too all about getting over a busy road
I liked this because I love Hedgehogs and I used to be in Hedgehog class in Year 1. It is about a Hedgehog called Max who crosses the road but got hit by a bicycle. Max is helped by a Sparrowhawk who is my favourite character because he is kind and doesn't eat Max. I would like to read more Dick King-Smith books now.
This book was very interesting.I would recommend this book to someone who likes animals that are cute and calm.
It was a good book, I found it a bit funny
Story about two hedgehogs that had babies - Max wanted to be the first hedgehog to cross the road, but he got run over on his head and was saying his sentences the wrong way round. He got run over again and his speaking went back to normal again. He crossed the road, but caused a big accident and then at the end he crossed the road by the lollipop lady and crossed safely.
