Your thoughts about the book:
Monkey Puzzle is a fun and heartwarming story about a little monkey who’s lost his mum. With the help of a kind butterfly, he searches through the jungle, meeting all sorts of animals along the way. The rhyming text and clever repetition make it a joy to read aloud.
What did you enjoy?
I loved the rhythm and rhyme, which make the story easy to follow and fun to say. The illustrations by Axel Scheffler are bright, expressive, and full of character. The twist — that the butterfly keeps getting it wrong because her babies don’t look like her — is clever and funny.
What did it make you think or feel?
It made me feel empathy for the little monkey and reminded me how important family is. It also made me laugh at the butterfly’s mistakes and feel happy when the monkey finally finds his mum.
What kind of young reader would you recommend this to?
I’d recommend this to children aged 3–11 who enjoy animal stories, rhymes, and colourful illustrations. It’s perfect for reading aloud at home or in the classroom.
Any content warnings that others should know?
None- this book is safe, gentle, and suitable for all young readers. There’s no scary content, and the theme of being lost is handled in a reassuring way.

Funny!
A book about a monkey who is looking for his mother and a butterfly whom he helped and found other animals that had the characteristics of his mother.
I liked it when the monkey found his mum.
Its a nice book about a monkey finding his mum.
I thought this book was funny and I would recommend it. It was nice he found his mum.
I like monkey puzzle because he is looking for his mum and then gives her a big hug when he sees her
I loved the butterfly in this book as I found him silly because he kept getting little monkey’s mummy wrong. She didn’t know that the butterfly’s mummy looks like him because the butterfly’s babies are all different and don’t look like her. Other children should read it because they will learn about the fact that some baby animals look like their mummy but in the butterfly case, they are caterpillars and they are completely different.
Loves the "no no no no that's not my mum"!
I like the happy ending.
It is very good
Fiction, my favourite was the baby monkey. I would recommend
I enjoyed this book but wasn’t my favourite .
I liked it was a monkey.
It was funny
I love this book because it is funny.
A little monkey has lost his mum and a butterfly tries to help him find her. She asks him several questions and finds different animals that are not his mum. Finally, the little monkey tells the butterfly that his mum looks like him. The butterfly didn’t realise this, because her own children, the caterpillars, don’t look like her. The monkey finds his family with the help of the butterfly. A very lovely story.
The butterfly was so silly getting it wrong.
She loved the book and the silliness
The butterfly she loved and the ending
This book about butterfly that helps the money find his way home. The butterfly get things muddled up on the way.
My favourite book
I like that there’s a little butterfly that helps the little monkey to find his mummy. The butterfly keeps on getting it wrong because she thought that his mummy looked different to him. In the end they found his Dad first then his Mum so the baby monkey was happy. I also liked the rhyming words and the pictures.
