Dax is a really magical, amazing character
I really like this series! Shame my library only has TWO!!!!
I really liked the characters personalities and that they were a good contrast. I like Owen Hind because he is very serious and humorous. He is not humorous very often but he is sometimes.
I really enjoyed rereading this book. My favourite character is Lisa
It was strange, but fun to read
I think it was a good read
I think my favourite character is Clive
I would probably recommend it to someone else

I think it was really good
This main character is too emo
It was really exciting and it was really hard to put down the book. I would recommend this book to people who like adventures and like a book that is really hard to tear your eyes away from. thanks
I love Ali Sparke's writing, she captures the reader and doesn't let go until they have heard every last word.
She knows how to weave seriousness and funniness into her stories.
My faverite characters in the first shape shifter book are Dax, especially when he is a fox and also the first shape shifter, the wolf who was killed by Patrick Wood.
I recommend this book for people who love animals, special powers, and lots of adventure.
I recommend this book for 10+.
I was looking for a book that I would be interested in but I could never find one until now. I love this book!
This book was extremely interesting and how our main character has a rare ability to be a shapeshifter and he is taken to a special school with people like him that have special abilities it also makes for a great mystery.
I like how this book shows you an ordinary boy ,but he actually has powers.I liked Dax best because he was the main character. Also because he was the only shape shifter. I would recommend this to people that like adventures.
An immense amount of fun. Should be on every "If you like Harry Potter, then you'll love..." list.
I loved this book as it is such a surprise when Daz shifts into a fox. My favourite character is Gidien as he likes chocolate and so do i. I think this book is for 7-9 year olds as some of it won't make sense for small children.
This book was an eye-catching adventure novel. I really liked the main character Dax Jones as he is funny and always calm.
Really good and makes me feel like i am in the story.
This is a great book.
The idea of a child suddenly discovering they can shape shift and become a fox is such an intriguing way to begin the story. The description of him in the form of a fox is so clever that I started to believe that it was possible!
When he starts at Tregarren College and becomes a COLA, I wanted to be their right alongside the characters, discovering their special abilities.
There was also an unexpected twist at the end. In fact, I now want to read the rest of the series.
This book follows the story of a young boy called Dax Jones. The action opens with him locked out of his house by a neglectful stepmother. We learn that he feels isolated in his family, unloved by his stepmother and unsupported by his father after the death of his Mum. Dax is no ordinary boy though, he develops incredible powers of transformation. Dax is protective of his schoolfriend Clive who is the victim of bullies. A confrontation leads to the violent unleashing of Dax's extraordinary powers. In short order, in an attempt to cover up, Dax is transferred to a school for "talented" children where he learns that all is not as benign as it first seems. Interesting characterisation - you find yourself rooting for Dax and his amazing friends.
Dax is a sympathetic character, his interaction with his classmates and the unfolding story will appeal to children who are fans of Harry Potter and the X Men franchise.
This is a simple story, with crisp vocabulary choices and nicely paced action sequences. It would lend itself to class discussion or self guided reading. Bullying and acceptance of difference would allow for use in PSHE classes.
I liked this this book because it's all about shapeshifters with different powers. My favourite character was Owen because he made the book more exciting!
My favourite character is dax because he can turn into a Fox. My favourite part is when dax turned into a Fox. I would recommend this book to 8+and to adventurous readers
This was my sort of story seeing as it was sci-fi and magic related.
I absolutely loved this book, it was so cliff-hanging. my favourite character is Owen because he saved Dax's life every time he falls in danger. I highly recommend this book.
It was quite enjoyable to read and I couldn’t put it down
really exciting. Dax finds out he can shapeshift, but then he's captured and asked to start a new school with "colas" people with magical abilities. This is where his adventures start. My favorite character in this book was Dax I enjoyed watching him learn how to control his powers
It's funny at some points, it's adventure and it's a amazing with people with powers as they can levitate stuff and they use hypnosis. It is really rare to be a shapeshifter . The main character has the main ability to turn into a fox and I'm really looking forward to reading the next book.
This is a fantastic book,
Full of plot twists this thick book is fab-u-los darling
My favourite character is gidon this whimsical character has one problem the trouble finds him before he finds it
Over all a fantastic book five stars !
It was an ok book. the start was my favorite
It was a bit like Harry Potter because it was about a school for kids with powers but without the wands. I really enjoyed it and it was an amazing book.
Excellent book right from the start it has you wondering what is going to happen and if everything is as it seems.
