An action-packed blend of historical adventure and fantasy for junior readers; a blast of uncensored Viking adventure.
Gunnar is the son of an Anglo-Saxon chieftain, living peacefully on his family steading with his mother, father and their people – until they are raided by Skuli and his Wolf Men, who raze his home to the ground and take his father’s life. Gunnar swears an oath to avenge his father’s death and save his mother from Skuli – but first he must run to save himself. Murderous raiders, hand to hand battles to the death, mythical flying wolves and a relentless sea journey to the Land of Fire and Ice… Unknown to Gunnar, his life has been foretold, and he finds he has a destiny greater than his own story.

It was a good quest book and I really enjoyed it
My whole class are reading it and I think personally it is a good book. It is about a boy who swears an oath to destroy the outlaws who burned his house and killed his dad.
A great, gruesome book to help understanding of Viking era. The children loved the blood and gore! This book got a round of applause when I finished reading it!
Enjoyed reading this book although it is a bit gory. I would recommend
This is a great story. I read it during the summer as a eccommended year for our year five's whose anyumn topic will be about the vikings. This is the perfect book for the class read to run along side the topic.
This is a story about a viking boy called Gunner who lives with his mother and father. His father gets killed and Gunner makes an oath to revenge his fathers death.
Yes I would like to recommend it to other people who like very sad and gruesome
I would only recommend this to someone that is quite adventurous and not scared easily as this is quite an adventurous book and can be a little frightening for some but it’s an ok book it’s pretty boring and just not my type of thing x
This book is really good I would recommend this to a friend. Gunner is my favourite caricature in this book.
It hooked me in from the start. Gruesome in places, but beautifully described
i love this fiction book. It is all about viking which is one of my favourite history subject.
Gunnar is the main character and he is getting revenge cor the betrayal of his father.
I kind of like this book because everyone was brave. But it was scary and good at the same time. I liked Hega because she was nice and caring.
Brilliant read and a real page turner. I will be using this for potential GD readers in Class reading lks2. I was worried because of the amount of fighting but as most of our class have read Harry Potter then I think they can cope with this book.
The children really enjoyed reading this book with me.
