Feodora and her mother live in the snowbound woods of Russia, in a house full of food and fireplaces. Ten minutes away, in a ruined chapel, lives a pack of wolves. Feodora’s mother is a wolf wilder, and Feo is a wolf wilder in training. A wolf wilder is the opposite of an animal tamer: it is a person who teaches tamed animals to fend for themselves, and to fight and to run, and to be wary of humans.
When the murderous hostility of the Russian Army threatens her very existence, Feo is left with no option but to go on the run. What follows is a story of revolution and adventure, about standing up for the things you love and fighting back. And, of course, wolves.

Was an amazing book. Feo showed great acts of bravery
Great for Uks2 pupils, genuinely brilliant book
An action-packed adventure, conjuring vivid atmospheres throughout this brooding tale. Rundell takes the reader for quite the ride in this book, with the reader willing on the protagonist throughout. A great read.
Liked it - because it has scary parts
Didn’t like - the titles link to the story
Brilliant and enchanting tale
It was a great book! Katherine Rundell is my favourite author!
It was very dramatic and entertaining
Amazing
A great story about bravery, the fierceness of familial love, daring to believe and friendships. From the opening sentence: ‘Once upon a time, a hundred years ago, there was a dark and stormy girl.’ I was gripped and fully immersed in Feo’s world of snow, wolves and survival. Highly recommended.
amazing would recommend this book to anyone but especially people who LOVE wolves (like me!!!!:))
I loved it definitely recommend it
This book is a bit basic at first but at the end it is amazing and interesting
This book is a absoloute mystery and if I was Feo's mother, then I would'nt let Feo go.
I loved the Russian setting and history of tsars in this book. Feo was fearless!
I loved this story about a fierce and determined girl, Feo, who has a special relationship with wolves. It is a fairytale set in the cold, deep forests of Russia. It is the story of how Feo, against all the odds, takes on the Russian establishment in order to free her mother from prison.
I thought this book was clever, interesting and exciting. My favourite characters were Feo because she was half-wild and knew lots about wolves and the wilderness, Ilya because he was really nice and an amazing dancer and Sergei and Alexei because they were both bold and funny! I would definitely recommend this book!
I think The Wolf Wilder is one of the Best Books Ever Written!!!! Katherine Rundell is amazing author!
My favourite point of this book is when the army of village children believe that a professional dancer is an enemy and get ready to battle and when he walks through the door Ilya shot an icicle right at the door frame but then they realise that all he wants to do is offer Ilya a place in his ballet school.
My favourite character is Feo. I like her friendship with Black, White and Grey and how the first wolf she wilded was when she was only 6 years old.
I would recommend this book to everyone!
The Wolf Wilder is a wonderful tale that takes you on a journey through Russian wilderness. Feo is a remarkable protagonist. I would certainly recommend this book; Rundell's writing is brilliantly engaging.
An exiting,, engaging story about a girl who teaches wolves to be wild again...
It was really good definitely fictional.
Love, love, love! Katherine Rundell is a genius...what more can be said? One of her best.
I liked the main character called Feodora but also called Feo for short and I would recommend it.
- Liked the sadness
- Liked that they had to look after wolves
- Would recommend to a friend
The chapters were very long but I enjoyed the book.
So good
It was a amazing book my favourite character was Feo (the main character) she was my favourite because she was really brave and loved/looked after wolves
I absolutly love this book about a girl and a boy who try and protect some harmless wolves. But if you get sad at animal death please do not read there is death.
Santa got me this book for Christmas and he chose very well! I really enjoyed this adventure story and would definitely recommend it to others.
This book was really exciting and moving. I really liked it when they started to go on a mission. I would highly recommend it to other people. It was fictional but some parts were based on fact.
I loved reading this book and read it so quickly. I enjoyed escaping into a completely different world and the elements of danger from the wolves and the threat of capture. I enjoyed the interactions between the different characters and how the relationships and the characters changed and evolved as the story progressed.
