The Legend of Podkin One-Ear: 'A Spellbinding Story Full of Friendship, Excitement and Magic.' Guardian

The story deals with some quite serious challenges, issues and moral dilemmas, but I felt these were handled in a child-friendly way.
I thought the structure of the book was particularly clever.

When Podkin's story becomes highly emotional, frightening, suspenseful or action-packed, the author periodically takes the reader away from the main story and back to the Bard telling it.

For me, this provides an emotional breathing space. The child is temporarily removed from the immediate danger experienced by Podkin and his siblings and reminded that they are listening to a story.

This could be particularly valuable for a child who finds suspense or frightening scenes overwhelming. It provides some reassurance, perspective and distance before returning to the story.

I would say this is suitable for a year 4 and older. A reader who enjoys adventure and isn't going ot shy away from emotional scenes.

Personally, I really enjoyed this book and will read the others in this series.

Brilliant adventure book about the plight of a young rabbit and his siblings who are on the run from the vicious ‘gorm’ who destroyed their warren and life as they knew it.

This book is well crafted and teaches children the value of family and standing up for what is right.

Excellent description and vocabulary

I thought the book was really good and imaginative. My favourite character was because he has a magic dagger. I would reccommend this book to someone else because it's really good.

I enjoyed the danger and adventure in this book! I feel like I really connected with Paz, getting frustrated at her brother, which is why she's my favourite character!

It had one of the best endings I've ever read. I really like all of the mythology. I wonder if this book could actually come true, but probably not, what with climate change and all that that stuff.

I like this book a bit but some is scary

It was very exciting and interesting but could have been slightly longer. That would have elevated it to a higher level.

This is the best book I have read it twice now

This is an exciting journey story in the style of the Hobbit but with rabbits as the main characters. There are plenty of battles and good triumphing over evil. The setting and character descriptions are very well written.

I loved pook because he was just so cute ! And I’ve already recommended this to all my friends ! Loved it !!

Podkin is the son of a warrior chieftain. He knows that one day he will lead and guard his warren. But for now, he’s quite happy to laze around and play with his siblings.

His house is attacked, and the young rabbits are forced to leave. Podkin helps protect his family, trys to defeat the bad enemy. fun and interesting book.

I would definitely recommend this book. It is fantastic. My favourite characters the 3 children.

I absolutely loved this book, the world it was set in and how the story and characters developed. I would definitely recommend this book.

I loved this book! It was amazing and I felt that the characters were easily relatable and I felt instantly connected with them. I liked Paz the best. I would DEFINITELY recommend it to someone else.

I enjoyed this book because Podkin and his siblings had lots of adventures with the different rabbit tribes.
My favourite was Podkin because he was very brave, even when his ear got chopped off by a portcullis!

It reminded me of a number of other stories.. Hobbit, Lord of the Rings and something I couldn’t quite put my finger on!

Overall a well written book with plenty of opportunities for vocabulary discussion.
