Yes it is very imaginative
oh my goodness was I pleasantly surprised by this book! I loved it from start to finish and couldn't wait to keep reading more and more. How the author draws you into Joe's everyday life is amazing.
It shows how people feel when sick, but the character In the book [Joe] always pushes forward even if something terrible happens.
I really loved this book. It takes place in a hospital with a boy who was born without an immune system. My favourite character was probably Amir the nurse because even if he is slightly crazy, he does everything to help Joe. It is a little bit sad in places, but overall a 5/5!
So this boy called Joe who has been living in a bubble since he was 3 or 2 months old once this new nurse came in his name is Amir and he believes in aliens and he keeps looking out the window at the planes.I liked Beth because she’s always there for Joe, yes I would recommend it.
Joe is stuck in a bubble until Amir comes. He give him permission to go outside but he's not allowed to take off his his helmet. Joe does take off his helmet and gets a fungal infection
Sad, emotional, exciting, lots of death!
I wasn’t terrible it was great
Interesting exploration of the subject, good lead character, but did ind the main twist of the plot quite unbelivable overall quite good, and know he is a good writer.
The reason I liked it was because it was adventurous and I loved how he loved Spider-Man. My favourite character was obviously Joe.
This book is happy sad and gripping and I could barely put it down. I hated it when people died and felt sad but that didn’t stop me reading it
This about a boy who has a rare disease and cannot go outside. He has a really week immune system and had been in hospital since birth his name is Joe.Allvthat Joe wishes is that he could go outside little does he know what dangers he must face ...
I is sad but when I picked it up I could not put it down!
This book made me think a lot about lockdown during the pandemic and how many people have been isolated. It has moments of being shocking, like when Joe gets an infection, and moments when Joe can experience the world for the first time as an 11 year old. I would have liked to have known what happened to Joe- did they ever find treatment for his SCID? I would recommend this book but it was quite a lot to take in emotionally.
A pog, hard to describe book.
This book is about a boy who stays in a bubble because if he leaves his bubble he can catch diseases.
His sister visits him a lot.
A great book which took me by surprise, as I didn't think I would get so invested in the main characters. I picked it up as it is regularly recommended for year 6, so I thought I should read it, and I am so glad that I did. It is a book that hooks from the first page and keeps you reading. It is quite sad at times but the story is also infused with humour and kindness.
A beautiful text. There are no words.
I really enjoyed reading this book.
A light way of writing, handles many tough subjects, death of parents, ill health, death of a friend. As an adult I enjoyed the book, but as a primary school librarian I would only lend it to more mature readers or to a child to read with an adult. Not the standard 'all's well in the world' ending for a children's book.
Joe is an excellent character that you are root for the whole time.
Recommend as Y6 or mature Y5 read
This was a really interesting read. It explored the ideas of bravery, grief, loss and hope in a really clever and interesting way. All you really want to do is save him.
I didn't like the book it was really depressing towards.the middle. So i advise you to not stop reading or take a break. I wouldnt recommend the book to anybody expect if it looks like they're going to be stranded in hospital
This book was very interesting- I didn't even know some people didn't have immune systems! It was also very sad though and it got me really thinking about how lucky I am. Highly recommend this book to 10+ readers as some bits are hard to understand.
I thought he was floating in a bubble then I realised he was isolated in a room and escapes with a mad nurse
I think this book taught me that I should appreciate the things I have and not take them for granted because there are other people out there that aren't as lucky as I am. This book was sad and funny at the same time. I would recommend it to someone who takes the amazing things they have, for granted.
How do you cope with life in hospital in a sealed sterile unit that you need to stay alive due to your unique health condition?
This is great, thought provoking story about 11 year old Joe and his sister Beth, coping with his health condition after losing their parents in a car crash. Would one trip into the outside world really do any harm? Expect a few tears and heartbreaks from this very different book.
I liked Amir because he was really funny and encouraging. He believes in aliens.
The storyline was so brilliant that I couldn't put the book down!
This book was very good and sad the only reason I put this book as a four not a five is because there was alot about tvs and i found those bits slightly boring but other than that this book was great
is one of those books that makes you feel realy lucky .
I loved this book (and all the other books by this author). It was a moving(sad) story
