Set in 1936, this is a really exciting spy thriller about an international conspiracy that spans England, Germany and Spain. Clements is brilliant at weaving real-life historic characters into the narrative and making it all seem entirely real. It begins with a young Englishwoman delivering vital papers to a Jewish scientist in Nazi Germany. A few weeks later she’s found dead, ostensibly from a drugs overdose, and a society couple with fascist leanings are found murdered. Throw the Abdication Crisis into the mix and you have a seriously fascinating mystery. I loved this, and as it’s Book 1 of a series I'll definitely be reading more!
