The sisters of STREET CHILD tell their story…
A companion novel to bestselling story of Victorian orphan Jim Jarvis based on the founding of Dr Barnardo’s homes for children. When Jim Jarvis is separated from his sisters, Lizzie and Emily, he thinks he will never see them again. Now for the first time, the bestselling author of STREET CHILD reveals what happened to his orphaned sisters. In Victorian London, Lizzie and Emily are left in the care of a cook but their story takes them to the mills of northern England. There, under the keen eyes of the mill owners, the girls are made to work in harsh conditions and any chance of escape is sorely tempting… An incredible new STREET CHILD story based on the true experiences of Victorian mill girls. It was very emotional and realistic
This book was very melancholy and the book kept you reading it was brilliant my favourite part of the book was when Lizzie was taken to the beach. Emily was my favourite character. The book told me a lot about the life of being in a Victorian mill. I think that you should be 10-15 to read this book.
it is a sad book
It was a privilege to read and was useful for to research of a Victorian child's life, I had read street child and was desperate to find out what had happened to Jim's sisters. My favourite character was Emily because she is a very daring and kind person who would not let anything happen to her sister.
I would definitely recommend this book!
its very sad but a good story
very interesting
I liked the character Lizzie because she was brave.
I would recommend this book to someone else.
I chose to read this book as I really enjoyed Street Child at school.
My favourite characters were Lizzie and Emily.
The book was interesting as it was based in the Victorians and parts of the book were based on facts.
The book was full of sadness but had a happy ending.
I would recommend this book.
This book follows on from 'Street Child's, I read it because I wanted to know what happened to Jim's sisters. My favourite character is Lizzie. The story is set in Victoria London, when the girls are left at the 'Big house' after Jim and his mum leave to head for the workhouse. The girls decide to follow mum but end up in a cotton Mill.
Far From Home is a great book that follows onto 'Street Child'. This book is based on a real story in the Victorian era. It is about two sisters called Emily and Lizzie. They have been left behind by their mother and brother in a big house kitchen with their mother's only friend Rosie. Rosie promises to let the girls have a good life. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes adventure stories and to people who want to know what it was like in past Britain.
I liked this story because it was fictional but there was elements of truth in it. My favourite character is Emily as she will do anything to keep her sister safe
This book was Fantastic !!! I loved reading it. I actually got this from the library and when I was going to return it , the libraries closed because of Covid-19 . I loved reading book because it seemed so real . It also included History and it has another part which is a book called Street Child .
