The Astounding Broccoli Boy is the hilarious tale of an unlikely (and very green) hero believing in himself and finding adventure.
Rory Rooney likes to be prepared for all eventualities. His favourite book is Don’t Be Scared, Be Prepared, and he has memorized every page of it. He could even survive a hippo attack. He knows that just because something is unlikely doesn’t mean it won’t ever happen . . .
But Rory isn’t prepared when he suddenly and inexplicably turns green. Stuck in an isolation ward in a hospital far from home with two other remarkably green children, Rory’s as confused by his new condition as the medics seem to be.
What if turning green actually means you’ve turned into a superhero? Rory can’t wait to make it past hospital security and discover exactly what his superpower might be . . .
This edition of Frank Cottrell Boyce’s funny adventure features fantastic cover artwork and black and white inside illustrations from the incredible Steven Lenton.

I really enjoyed it .
Good
This book is so funny at the part when the boy makes gorillas on the loose.
A great book which is full of adventure especially the part when they found a new member of their society. My favourite person I liked the the best was Koko . It interest me because it was silly and funny in a good way. I would recommend it to my friend Amelia.
This is my favourite book it is funny and suspensful overall a great book
This author makes me laugh a lot I am now reading some of his other books
The main character, Rory Rooney, is the best because he has cool abilities - I won't say any more! If I could change one thing, I would make there be more funny comments - there are plenty already, but Frank Cottrell-Boyce is great at jokes!
I would recommend it to people who love Jamie Smart books and other funny Phoenix writers.
I love it, it = super
I think it’s a funny and exciting book and I would recommend it. My favourite part was when they let the animals out of the zoo and when the hippo had a fight with the freezer.
Full of adventure and fun, this book will take you on a real trip
You’d have thought this book was written in 2020! It wasn’t, but if you haven’t ever read this book, do read it now. Memorable characters and story masterfully written by Frank Cotterell- Boyce are enhanced by charming illustrations by Steven Lenton. 📚❤️🌟
This was very adventourous and fun to read
This was a hilarious story about a boy who turns green one day and believes he has super heroic powers (although the Killer Kitten virus and locked down London are weirdly prophetic given the present pandemic!) Rory, the main character, lives his life using advice from the book ‘Don’t be scared, be prepared’, and he has many uses for it in this action packed story. I would recommend it to any 7+ year old who loves a super hero story ( and a chuckle).
Good
This is a strange story with lots of interesting characters.
Another amazing book by Frank Cottrell-Boyce. It talks about a boy, Rorey Rooney, turning green! Nobody knows why, but he thinks he's a super hero. Its a really enthralling and funny story, all the characters have a personality which makes you remember them, and some have really funny personalities. It's a funny, amazing book and I strongly recommend it. There's even a little penguin!
I liked the penguins. It was funny.
I just love the author
funny and interesting
It was funny. I liked the penguins
It’s about a boy abd two others that turn green and go on superhero adventures . Would recommend as it’s funny
This is a very funny book, my favourite bit is the penguins in London. I would recommend it to children aged 8-12.
This book was about a boy called Rory Rooney who was bullied as a child. One of his bullies, Tommy-Lee turned from hurting him to joining and admiring him. Both of them turn green and are isolated - they turn into superheroes. They make friends with a girl, Koko and penguins. In the end they find the green color was caused by an allergic reaction. It was the killer kittens who had turned them green but not Ill but actually immune. This has allowed doctors to create a killer kitten vaccine - the children became superheroes as a result. They sneeze superpower. I liked this book because it had a strong message that whatever the thing that makes you different is the thing that makes you astounding. The thing that makes you different from everyone else is your superpower - like they say in the comic books. I would recommend this book to 9 + years.
It was an unusual book where three people turned green. My favourite character was Rory because he stood out to me when his personality changed. I would reccomed this book to people who like real life fantasy.
I really enjoyed this book and I would recommend it as it was funny.
This book was funny. My favourite character was Rory Rooney.
I like Frank Cottrell Boyce's humour but it has just enough silliness to make it a wonderful read. My favourite character was Tommy-Lee Kommisky because he's really funny.
This was a great book . I would recommend this book for ages 8+ as it is a bit to complicated for young people. When a ordinary boy turns green, he discovers he has superpowers but can he and his 2 friends (Who are also green) save Christmas from the terrible disease of the Killer Kittens.
I loved this book! It is probably one of my favourites. My favourite characters were the penguins as they were Hilarious!!! I would definitely recommend his book to some else who likes superheroes. It was brilliant!!!
