a little bit had to concentrate on
a difficult read but all together wonderful would recommend if you are looking for a tricky read
This book is astonishing.
Here we look into the extraordinary world of young school Maia, who travels with her seemingly strict governess to the heart of the Amazon rainforest, where she meets the cousins she never knew she had, the Carter twins. Despite them making life miserable for Maia, she secretly helps an Indian boy in trouble, and travels to his tribe in order to help him out.
Would recommend to anyone!
It was full of adventure and action
Amazing but maybe a bit more suspense?
Very captivating

I absolutely loved this book - it was an excellent balance of a predictable and unexpected. I felt like Ibbotson really empowered the children too, as well making them very likeable.
It was to grown up for me and had to many sad bits
I like Maia the best because she's curious and kind-hearted. I would recommend this book to everyone who likes nature and animals.
I liked that it was a life story and I enjoyed finding out about Mia's travels along the river of fantasy.
It is an incredible adventure.
The book was great , with an amazing plot but very wordy :)) it was great as everyone in my class read it so it’s a good read , I’d say !
I saw this on holiday and it was the cover that caught my eye. I really enjoyed the descriptions of the Amazon in this book and the wonder in which it is regarded by the main character, Maia and her friends. This is summed up in a quote from near the end "she slipped into the library and leant her head against the mahogany steps she had climbed the day she knew she was going to the Amazon. The dream she had dreamt there had been a true one. She had found a land whose riches she had never before imagined." This book would be enjoyed by many people, young and old. A beautiful adventure!
Based in the Amazon Mai tries to unravel a mysterious new world
This book was beautifully written, I now want to travel to the Amazon! I loved the chosen time and how detailed the description was. Just a thoroughly wonderful read.
I loved it, it was adventurous and fun to read!
I loved reading this book because of all of the emotions I went through reading it. The references to the animals in the Rain forest interested me the most because I haven't been and would love to experience it for myself.
I was drawn in by the first page of the book because the author has written it in such a way that I was interested immediately. I was immersed in an imaginary world of the Brazilian rain forest.
It was a great book and I really enjoyed it.
Interesting book
I liked this book very much because it was written really well
My favourite part was the part when fin and Clovis swap places and Clovis nearly gets caught

I read this book as it was one of Pie Corbett's recommended Page Turners for Year 4.
Love this book, but haven’t read it for years! The evocative descriptions, the satisfyingly rich characters and the satisfying outcomes for all just make this a joy!
My fav character was the twins not because the wear mean because I would look be to travel up a river to get to a town.i would recommend it
It was fine but it had spelling mistakes and it was a hard read
I thought it was brilliant, I thought it was lovely I really felt connected to the characters.
I LOVED reading this book. The descriptions and character development were outstanding. I particularly liked how the author carefully wove all the details together in the ending…very cleverly composed. I really connected and empathized with the characters and there were so many interesting twists and turns throughout the story. Highly recommend this book for upper Key Stage 2.
Great book, very interesting.
Maia was the main character and she is my fav as well.
Interesting book because it has lots of different scenes . Many problems which has a happy ending!
I would recommend this book to other kids because it is the type of book that makes you want to read more. Also this is highly recommended to people who likes adventure story.
This book was was about getting used to a new life, Maia had to travel across the world , from England to Brazil to meet her new family who were her distant cousins. My favourite character was Maia because even though the twins were bullying her , she kept her promise to her new friend Clovis and helped a boy called Finn Taverner along the way.
I would highly recommended it and in my opinion is a 10 out of 10.
