Although this book is not suitable for Primary children, I wanted to add it to my list since it was a piece I greatly enjoyed reading over the summer.
As well as this, I noted that GCSE students were studying it during an insight day I attended.
In relation to secondary education, Mary Shelley’s works are truly inspiring. I love that students will be able to learn of a young woman who, at the age of 18, created a genre defining story which is relevant to this day.
However, I also love Shelley’s ability to use her romantic writings as a means of building tension when juxtaposing her beautifully crafted natural environments with her dark gothic ones, before revealing the horrors of the text.
Overall, the books is an thrilling, yet oddly relaxing read (when delving into the romantic themes), from start to finish.
I found myself longing to get back to the text while occupied with other tasks throughout the summer and I am envious of students who study this over Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde!
A distinctively average book which while known as a classic, can be a hard read for those who either do not read often, or struggle with the old English language.
I enjoyed the ending of the book more than the rest of it, and found it rather poetic as it gave Frankenstein's monster a more human feel, unlike the common misconceptions around the character.
All in all, while the book did not appeal to me that much, I would rate it 3/5 starts.
I would not recommend this book to younger people because it is too scary. It would be better suited to older children
I thought it was an extremely good read because it was very manipulative, as it could very easily make you happy or sad. My favourite character was Frankenstein because he was very smart, but smartness got the better of him.
I loved it, I just think it should have more detail. A true tradgedy!
This to me was so boring.
It is very exciting wondering what is going to happen next
