I found this book fascinating, so intense and gripping - I didn't want to put it down. Loved the close look into Winston's life.

I did not find the writing style in this book particularly compelling. I was also bored by the political rhetoric which at times continued at length. I suppose I should appreciate this book for being one of the founding texts of the modern dystopian genre which I enjoy so much, but given it is that, I expected so much more from it. It reminds me of Frankenstein - I know I should admire it for being a hybrid of genres and arguably the foundation of modern science fiction writing, but because it carries these lofty titles I find I am let down by the quality of the novel. They were both ground-breaking for their day but so much better work has been produced in the genres since.

Still relevant to this day. Maybe even more so as the totalitarian regimes of Stalin, Hitler and Mao slide into obscurity or are deliberately obscured, and Orwell's 'all seeing Big Brother' seems to be more and more prescient.

The book is about Mr Smith who belongs to the "the Party", and live in the life where rules are created by the party and Big Brother. Big Brother controls every aspect of the people's live.
The party controls everything, what people say, read or do. Any type of rebellion is punished and treated as a crime,
Mr Smith started a rebellion against the party and keeps diary about this. He doesn't agree with rules in his world. At the end of the novel Mr Smith is punished for his thoughts and his action against the party.
I really enjoyed reading this book, however at the same time I felt very sad and disturbed when I read it. It reminds me time of communism in Poland.

A very interesting if disturbing read that has some links to events of today. Whilst a fiction novel, it gives cause to think about the use of the mainstream media by governments around the world as a manipulation tool! It all feeds into the group think prevalent around the world at present and how certain phrases are being commonly used by those in power. A good read if a little dense at times. Has taken me the best part of nine months to read on and off. I blame young children though as it is a relatively short book.

This book was unsettling and horrifying; the kind of story you never want to come true. In this world there are no happy endings, no chance of escape and no place to go. You can't trust anyone and no matter how good your intentions are, you'll always be found out. It utterly terrifying to see how easily people fed into the lies of the government.

If this book is just sitting on your shelf I definitely recommend picking it up.

I thought it was a marvellous piece of fiction that really makes the reader reflect upon what is to be alive, what is to be free, and how much is life worth without freedom of expression.

This book is a classic and a must read for all teens. It describes a distopian world which is very shocking and seems extremely modern, despite being written in 1948.

I found this book very interesting and the ideas it conveys easy to believe. However at some parts in the books, i did get bored.

It was very good but did have some bits which seemed to go slow, very glad I study Psychology or I might struggle with some of the terminology!
