I chose The Assassin’s blade because I was recommended it by my sister, who even at 19 said that she really enjoyed the book. I like books of the fantasy fiction Genre, so going into the book I was very excited to read it.
The book is about a girl named Celaena Sardothien, who has no parents, a backstory that is unknown to us, and is only seen in flashbacks and waves of sadness, and has been brought up as an assassin in a world where a corrupt king has banned all magic, you are never safe from people trying to do harm to you for their own enjoyment, even if you are in your own home. Celaena and the only other person she trusts, her fellow assassin, Sam gets sent on missions to kill people on remote islands, dangerous deserts, and in the middle of parties. Her master, Arobynn Hamel has been acting strange, which makes Celaena question her allegiance, and if everything is as simple as it seems.
She soon finds that she feels much more for Sam than just friendship, and by defying her master’s orders with Sam by her side, they risk unimaginable punishment. They will have to risk everything they have to escape Arobynn’s scheming, and if they fail, it will cost them their lives.
I thought that The Assassin’s Blade was a very provocative book to read, because corruption and fear are a common factor in this book, and people being used, by ‘superiors’ in the hierarchy. I loved how much detail the author has put in just to describe the plan before the assassination, and the ‘what if something goes wrong’ parts of the book filled me with adrenaline. The ending was very sad for me, and I hope that things change for the better for Celaena, and the story plays out as well as I have seen and enjoyed, and I am very excited to start reading the next books in the series. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the fantasy fiction genre.
I rate this book a 5/5

Fabulous start to the series, introducing Caelena the assassin and her quests across the land.
If you want a feisty, fearless lead character getting into and out of tricky situations, thui is the book for you. And then there are 7 more in the series....

This is a prequel to the throne of glass series, of which I have read the first two books, and only recently found out about this prequel.

I did not enjoy this book. It tells the story of Celaena Sardothian, an assassin, and her employment by Arobynn Hamel.

I would describe the book’s plot as random and unnecessary. It felt pulled out of a hat, and did not flow.

It is split into multiple parts, and they all felt like different stories. One of which tells a story about Celaena being sent to the desert, another about her freeing slaves from a pirate lord, another about her on the run, and I only enjoyed the last part.

The reason it gets an average rating is because I enjoyed the ending. Sam Cortland was an enjoyable character and him and Celaena at the end made this book more worth it.

Objectively, a half-decent book, enjoyment-wise, terrible. I wouldn’t recommend.
