What little girl can turn a whole household upside down and breathe new life back into a strange, old manor? The wonderfully contrary, strong-willed, angry, misunderstood Mary Lennox.

When Mary Lennox is sent to Misselthwaite Manor to live with her uncle, everybody says she is the most disagreeable-looking child ever seen. It is true, too. Mary is pale, spoilt and quite contrary. But she is also horribly lonely. Then one day she hears about a garden in the grounds of the Manor that has been kept locked and hidden for years.

And when a friendly robin helps Mary find the key, she discovers the most magical place anyone could imagine…

The perfect heart-warming story for young readers and young-at-heart readers alike.

A perfect story - sad, interesting and ultimately happy. I am in love with Dickon, the country boy!

Mary is a very sensitive little girl who moves to her uncles house in Yorkshire because a snake kills her family. She befriends an animal-loving, friendly little boy called Julian, I think his name was, and a cold hearted boy called Colin and Martha, the chamber maid. They discover a secret garden and spend lots of fun times there.
This book made me feel like I should take up gardening and I did after this book. It also made me feel like I should read the other classics and I have read Heidi, Anne of Green Gables , Five children and it, Ballet Shoes and Black Beauty. My favourite characters are Julian,( supposedly), and Mary. I would give this book 10/10 and I definitely recommend it to all you mischief makers.

In the Secret Garden my favourite part was when Mary found the secret door to the Secret Garden. She meets a friend called Dicken. You should read this because it is a kind and sweet story. It is about meeting new friends and traveling to different countries. One was India which is very hot.
